Corning, NY - November 19, 2010 - In a city well known for its impressive holiday lighting, Corning's Gaffer District is excited to announce the return of its annual lights display as a part of this year's Crystal City Christmas events season.
Following a three-year tree pruning process, the lights are making a much-anticipated return to Historic Market Street for this year's season. For the length of the street and in Centerway Square, lights will illuminate nearly 150 trees.
Gaffer District Executive Director, Coleen Fabrizi stated, "We are overjoyed that the pruning process was successful and most of all that the tree lights will be shining brightly throughout the Crystal City Christmas season. The lights in the trees are absolutely enchanting and something generations of families throughout the region and beyond have adopted as a part of their annual traditions."
In addition to the lights on Market Street, Corning's Northside will feature buildings with holiday lights and bright snowflakes to accent street corners from Pulteney Street to Denison Parkway.
The public is invited to join in the official Centerway Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, November 27th from 4:00pm - 6:00pm in Centerway Square. This year's 20-foot Douglas Fir tree was donated by Leon and Sheri Golder of South Corning. The tree lighting event is free and open to the public. Live entertainment and music will fill the stage until the lighting ceremony at 6:00pm. Families are invited to visit Santa Claus in his Crystal House for photos during the event. Immediately following the Centerway Tree Lighting, the annual Parade of Lights will showcase more than 60 illuminated vehicles and groups in traditional holiday fashion.
The Gaffer District staff would like to invite people to visit the Gaffer District Facebook page and submit your favorite Crystal City Christmas memories and also enter your favorite Parade of Lights and Sparkle photos in the "Welcome Back the Lights Photo Contest".
