Café London is pleased to announce Lunch with Henry Dormann, an exclusive meet-and-greet with a favorite local television personality.
Host of the popular weekend series Friends and Neighbors, Dormann is heavily involved with the greater Corning-Elmira community and often features local businesses on his show. While Café London will be featured on the series later this summer, viewers and fans will have the unique opportunity to meet Dormann at the special Lunch with Henry Dormann event on Wednesday, July 28th from 11:45am to 1:30pm at Café London, 69 E. Market St. in Corning.
Tickets for the event are just $20 per person and include lunch (choice of Hawaiian grilled chicken sandwich or shrimp Caesar salad), dessert, beverage, tax, gratuity, and a donation to the Dormann Library in Bath, NY.

The ARTS
The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS) announces the opening of Welcome Home, a solo exhibit by Bill Boland of Corning, NY. The exhibit is on display July 7 - August 3, 2010, in The Spotlight Gallery @ The ARTS, 32 West Market Street in Corning.
Boland is a pointillism artist who has been painting in this style for 12 years. This will be his first solo exhibit, and he is thrilled to have the opportunity. In his artist statement, Boland writes, "My faith is in my art. It is a faith in mankind. Faith in God. I believe in miracles. They say that those who believe in miracles have them. That seems to be the way it works."

Teatro Finisterre (World's End Theatre) will present Fire, Fire, Burning Bright, a modern day "medicine show". The piece is performed by Gigi Alvaré who plays a character named "St.Fumador" and is accompanied by assistants; "Les Fumettes" and two thirteen foot long dragons pulling a cart.
Alvaré received a Crossroads grant to perform street theatre pieces throughout 2010 which revolve around seasonal themes both on the natural and symbolic plane. The program encourages the creation of unique, artist-driven, site-specific, public arts projects occurring in non-arts venues. This piece, approximately 20 minutes long, plays with illuminating the nature of fire, transformation, beauty and light. At once humorous and profound it involves visual, scripted, as well as improvised material. "Through clowning, important ideas about the nature of existence can be brought to light'' says Alvaré.
The name " Finisterre" comes from the Latin; finis terrae and translates to "world's end" or "lands end" and refers to an actual place in the region of Galicia, Spain. Finisterre is the western most point of the coast; at the end of the ancient pilgrimage route; El Camino de Santiago.
This project is made possible in part, with public funds from the New York state Council on the Arts' Decentralization Program, administered locally by the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and will be performed in Centerway Square, Corning NY on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 12:15 during the Corning Farmers Market. |

Each summer, the Rockwell Museum of Western Art hosts a three-part Music, Margaritas & Sunsets on the Terrace series. The event is free to Museum members and $10 for not-yet-members. Due to requirements set forth by the New York State Liquor Authority as well as building capacity considerations, reservations must be made by 5:30pm the day before the event. To make a reservation, please call 607.974.2333 or email andrukatk@rockwellmuseum.org. For non-members, the cost of the event is $10 and is payable at the door.

West End Gallery announces the opening of its two newest exhibits. Featured in the Main Gallery is "New Days", a collection of recent work by GC Myers. Featured in the Upstairs Gallery is "Four Views" with new work by Tom Gardner, Marty Poole, Dustin Boutwell and the late Tom Buechner. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, July 22nd from 5:00-7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Both exhibits run from July 22 thru August 31, 2010. There will be a Gallery Talk by GC Myers on Thursday, August 5 from noon-1:00 p.m. The exhibit and gallery talk are free and open to the public. Exhibit A is pleased to announce Assembled Meanings. A solo exhibition of found object and image based assemblages by artist Gerald Mead. The OPENING RECEPTION is Friday, July 16, 5:30 - 8:00 PM. A GALLERY TALK with Gerald Mead takes place Saturday, August 28 at 5:00 PM.
Gerald Mead has spent years collecting things; antiquated photographic materials, medical slides, religious ephemera, and so on. Mead says, "I've long been intrigued by discarded objects and found images, regarding them as potent and poetic cultural artifacts." He goes on to explain, "Appropriating (and subverting) these objects and images represent not only my aesthetic and intuitive choices; it also introduces a dialogue with the viewer about how objects and images are observed and interrelated and how strategies of recombination affect their interpretation." The diminutive works presented in Assembled Meanings represent several of Gerald Mead's recent series.
Exhibit A is located upstairs in the Pure Design Building, 39-41 East Market Street, Corning NY. Regular gallery hours are Thursday and Friday 11-6:00 PM, Saturday 4-6:00 PM. Interested parties can also call (607) 259-1008 to visit the gallery by appointment. |
