| Horse Looks @ The ARTS | |
On exhibit through June 30, 2010
The ARTS
The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS) announces the opening of Horse Looks, a solo exhibit by Rod Reynolds of Elmira, NY. The exhibit is on display June 4 - 30, 2010, in The Spotlight Gallery @ The ARTS, 32 West Market Street in Corning. In his artist statement, Reynolds writes, "Artistically I paint a variety of subjects, buildings, people, animals, birds, and landscapes. Horses are of particular interest to me. Horses can be so powerful but yet seem to have such a gentle nature and a unique way of relating to people. I think it is that 'Powerful Gentleness' that attracts me to them as subjects."
Reynolds captures the complex spirit of the horse in his work. By using beautifully stunning colors and unique textures along with the sensitivity to his subject matter, Reynolds creates artwork that holds the viewers attention.
The Spotlight Gallery @ The ARTS is open Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm. For more information about the exhibit, please contact The ARTS by phone (607) 962-5871 x223 or email infoARTS@eARTS.org. Visit The ARTS online at www.eARTS.org. |

| Enchanted @ Exhibit A | |
On exhibit through July 10, 2010
EXHIBIT A presents: Candice Gawne: Enchanted, May 27 - July 10, 2010. 'Enchanted' opens the weekend of Corning's inaugural GlassFest. A reception is set to take place Friday, May 28 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM and will be part of the Finger Lakes Wine & Craft Beer Tastings on Market Street that evening. Exhibit A has special GlassFest hours scheduled for May 29 & 30, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM both days.
Candice Gawne's illuminated sculptures will be exhibited in a darkened gallery. Gawne's work is imbibed with the magic of color and light. And while reminiscent of the natural world, is a fantastical visual experience.
Also at Exhibit A, new works by Anne Gant, who currently lives in the Netherlands. Gant blows and works hot glass and while it is still screaming hot, burns it into paper which destroys the glass. She is a glass artist but her works on paper contain no glass. Instead each is a visual record of something that is no longer there.
A series of precious yet cage-like glass houses by Rochester area artist Mahine Rattonsey, examine the homes and situations people choose to exist in. UK artist Jaqueline Cooley's kiln formed glass pieces are rewarding forays into pattern and color. Nancy Sutcliffe also of the UK presents exquisite engraved glass that features gold leaf and distinctive figurative imagery. Corning's own Dan Mirer is showing his 'ladybug' bowls. Mirer, known for his technical versatility, develops glass forms that are at once classic and innovative.
Exhibit A is located upstairs in the Pure Design Buliding, 39-41 East Market Street, Corning NY. Regular gallery hours are Thursday and Friday 10-4:00 PM. In addition, there are many unannounced hours. Interested parties can also call (607) 259-1008 to visit the gallery by appointment. |
