Corning, NY - June 3, 2010 - Corning's Gaffer District is pleased to announce the 59th anniversary of Sorge's Restaurant, located on Historic Market Street in Corning's Gaffer District.
A landmark restaurant for locals and tourists alike, Sorge's Restaurant was completely destroyed by a fire in December 2008, re-built and re-opened just six weeks ago. The building, which is located at 66-68 West Market Street, is owned by Mike Sorge and his wife, Christine.
In celebration of its 59th anniversary, Sorge's will begin the upcoming weekend with a Magic-FM live radio broadcast on Friday, June 4th from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. Specials for the weekend include the weekly Saturday evening pasta buffet along with $1 draught beer for the entire weekend. Guests dining on Saturday, June 5th are also invited to join the Sorge family in celebrating the milestone with complimentary pieces of cake, offered throughout the day.
Co-owner Mike Sorge notes, "Our family is very grateful to continue the legacy started by my father and uncle nearly six decades ago. The only reason we're still here today is our customers - and for their devoted patronage and friendship, we consider ourselves truly blessed." Sorge also expressed delight when asked about business since the grand re-opening, noting that most nights have seen full dining rooms with a waiting list to boot.
Coleen Fabrizi, Executive Director of Corning's Gaffer District, notes, "It isn't often that a business community can see one of its own so rapidly rebound from a fire as devastating as Sorge's. It's truly a dream come true, twice over for the Sorge family, and we are delighted to be witnessing their joyful second chance and their 59th anniversary."
Construction on the Sorge's Restaurant building continues this summer towards the completion of two upper-floor residences. A tentative opening date is slated for late summer.
