5010 Causing Delays in Processing
5010 is Here!

There is no denying that 5010 has arrived.  While we are not seeing massive rejections or delays, we are experiencing the expected and planned for hiccups that are occuring.  The industry as a whole is realizing the magnitude in which 5010 has affected claims processing.  At MBSS we are seeing the largest delays with the Medicare carriers.  Here are some of the common issues we have been seeing:

1.  File Acknowledgement Reports:  5010 changes the way claims are formatted, which in turn changes the format of the reports you are receiving from the payers.  Payers are implementing the reports in different ways, resulting in more rejections.  We are working closely with our clearinghouses to resolve these issues promptly.  Please ensure that you are using our ticketing system to report any errors that you may be receiving.

2.  Payer Transitions to 5010:  Not all payers have transitioned to 5010 formats.  Inevitably when they do, the rejections do increase.  In addition, we are seeing delays in the processing of claims as the payers are implementing the new formats.

3.  Interpretation of Standards:  Since the industry is still in the beginning stages of the transition, we are still feeling the affects.

As the kinks and bugs are worked out between the providers, clearinghouses and payers, we will continue to see these types of delays for the next couple of months.
It is very similair to our transition to the NPI numbers, it was painful in the beginning but the industry regained it's footing within several months.

MBSS ~ Making a Difference

The employees at MBSS are having fun seeing who can dress the "funniest" on our "Dressing Casual on Mondays" for St. Jude Kids Program.  Everyone is contributing to this wonderful cause.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Ranked one of the best pediatric cancer hospitals in the country, St. Jude is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children.

Beware, if you stop into our offices on a Monday, you will see employees in pajamas, funny hats and flip flops!

CASA for Kids

MBSS sponsored and attended the latest CASA event, "Chef's for CASA".  This wonderful event was coordinated by one of our clients Fradelle Karpen (spouse of Dr. Jay Karpen) who is passionate about helping children in our own community!

CASA for Kids, Inc., is a local, non-profit organization that trains community members to become Court Appointed Special Advocates who will speak up for the best interest of abused and neglected children in the Courts of Washington County. CASA volunteers review records, research information and talk to everyone involved in a child's life and then present their recommendation to the court as to what they feel is in the best interest of the child. Judges rely heavily on this fact-based testimony to make a more informed decision on the child's future.
