March 2011

Dear Members:
Michael

The Vaughan Chamber of Commerce has had yet another stunningly busy month with even more high profile events... events such as the Annual Mayor's Luncheon on February 16, 2011.  The Vaughan Chamber of Commerce is always pleased and honoured to bring you this annual event with the help of event sponsor RenTex Realty who has been sponsoring the Mayor's Luncheon for several years.  A crowd of almost 400 attendees, most of them business people in the City of Vaughan, were able to hear the City's plan for business growth directly from Mayor Bevilacqua himself.

The Vaughan Chamber was also thrilled to be able to present a very special luncheon event on February 23rd, when Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty presented Ontario's Plan for Jobs and Growth.  Premier McGuinty was here to deliver a presentation to a large crowd of business people, politicians and community leaders.  He stated that while the recession has hit Ontario hard, the province is actually on sound footing heading into the future due to hard work by residents in addition to government investments aimed at improving five "fundamental" areas - education, health care, the energy sector, the tax system and infrastructure.

All this, of course, is your Chamber membership dollar hard at work bringing these high-quality events to you.  Your Chamber is working hard to ensure that your voice is being heard on many levels.  How else can you make your voice be heard?  There are so many ways that you can get involved with the Chamber and make a difference, be it through attending events or joining a Chamber committee.  In fact, a few of our passionate members have taken the step of submitting their names for consideration for the 2011 Board of Directors.  All members in good standing will have the opportunity to vote for our Board of Directors on March 30, 2011 during our Annual General Meeting.  I encourage all our members to attend the AGM and become active members of the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce.

Read the rest of this newsletter for more information on the Annual General Meeting and more upcoming exciting events, including our prestigious Annual Business Achievement Awards on April 28.  I hope to see many of you in the coming months.

Sincerely,

Michael Manett
Chairman of the Board of Directors

Peer to Peer Mentoring
New Sessions Starting!

The Vaughan Chamber of Commerce is wrapping up its first Peer Mentoring session, and will soon be launching a second session. Andy Hewitson of Hewitson Managment Solutions, Inc. has this to say about his Vaughan Chamber Mentoring experience:

"When the Vaughan Chamber offered the opportunity to participate in the new VCCBA Peer-to-Peer Mentoring program, I jumped at the chance. As a small business owner, the opportunity to compare notes, trade experiences and receive support from fellow business owners was simply too good to pass up. The experience has been excellent, the people I have met very interesting and supportive, and the expert facilitators helpful and forthcoming. In terms of value, I received more than 24 hours of some of the best business advice and suggestions I could possibly get, for a few hundred dollars, and that is likely one of the best deals you will find anywhere, (and I should know, I'm in the business of helping business owners)!  I heartily recommend the program for any business owner."

We are now looking for a new group of peer mentors.  For further details, please call Deborah at 905-761-1366, ext. 222 or email deborah@vaughanchamber.ca.
