Call for Board of Director Nominations
The Vaughan Chamber of Commerce will soon elect a new Board of Directors. If you are interested in running for election to the Board, nominations are due by 5:00pm Sunday, February 28, 2010.

Annual Mayor's Outlook Luncheon a Success!
It was a great turnout at the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce's Annual Mayor's Outlook Luncheon on Wednesday, January 20! Vaughan Mayor Linda Jackson took to the podium and outlined where the City of Vaughan has been, and where it is headed. Mayor Jackson also announced that building permits issued by the City of Vaughan totaled $1.049 billion in 2009, the eighth time in ten years the annual value of new construction has surpassed the billion dollar mark. The Policy Committee of the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce will be presenting a forum of the Mayoral candidates for Vaughan's October's municipal elections. Vaughan Stands Out Among Canadian Cities For Economic Prosperity
The City of Vaughan has one of the top two performing economies in Canada, according to a recent Conference Board of Canada report. The study, which assesses the attractiveness of Canadian cities to skilled workers and mobile populations, ranks Vaughan with Calgary and Edmonton as the only three cities to earn an "A" grade for a strong economy.

Federal & Provincial Governments Launch a Single, Toll-free Number for Business Information
To make it easier for business owners to get the information they need, the governments of Canada and Ontario have collaborated to create a telephone number with business information from both levels of government. Callers can dial 1-888-745-8888 or TTY 1-800-268-7095 to get information on several topics including financing options, starting or growing a business, federal and provincial government programs, managing employees, regulations, taxes, permits and licences, importing and exporting requirements, and more. |
Business Groups Want Extra Card Fee
Business groups such as the Canadian Federation of Independent Business say that retailers and small business owners should be allowed to "surcharge" consumers for using their credit and debit cards and that power should be enshrined in the federal government's voluntary code of conduct for the payments industry.
