Ontario Chamber of Commerce Business Survey Points to Improved Performance
Business confidence is on the rise in Ontario, as economic improvement appears not just on the horizon but currently underway, according to a survey conducted by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC). The business climate survey, conducted in June, shows that business performance has improved and business owners are more confident in the future, as compared to six months earlier. Canadian and U.S. Chambers Work to Reduce Border Costs
The Canadian and U.S. Chambers of Commerce, along with 47 other business organizations, have issued a joint border report entitled Finding the Balance: Shared Border of the Future. Following up the issue of 2008's border report, this paper offers specific recommendations to reduce border costs in the short-term while increasing security at the border and competitiveness of all industries. York Region Official Draft Plan Now Available for Review
The Draft York Region Official Plan has been released for public review and comments. The release of this Draft document is one of the final steps in the "Planning for Tomorrow" growth management initiative commenced in 2005. This Plan integrates the Regional Master Plans for Pedestrian and Cycling, Transportation and Transit and Water and Wastewater.

Encouraging Retail News
Canadian retail sales rose much higher than expected in May, according to Statistics Canada. Sales increased 1.2% during the month, with Ontario posting a 1.5% gain. The national automotive sector was the biggest winner, rising by 2.4% through May. For more on the report, please click here. |

The Vaughan Chamber of Commerce is now operating on summer hours until Friday September 4th.
During this period, the office will be open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, and 8am until noon on Fridays. | |
