clinician's bulletin

March 2012

Dear

We are excited to bring you this month's featured article, which is a randomized controlled trial that uses our very own  Heelift® Suspension Boot. We wanted to share this work with you because it establishes, with a high level of clinical relevance, something that we've been saying for quite a while: offloading pressure from the heels reduces the incidence of pressure ulcers.

It's exactly this kind of rigorous research that helps us tell our story...and allows you to see for yourself how vitally true it is. We've begun a program to encourage those who would like to conduct their own research utilizing our products to step forward so that we may assist them. Just fill out this short questionnaire to tell us a little about your plans, and we'll be in touch.

We know that there's a good chance you're a fan of the Heelift, that's why you subscribed to these newsletters. But what better way to show what the Heelift means to you and your patients than by demonstrating its effectiveness and publishing your findings? It's not just the Heelift, by the way. Are you tired of the problems associated with graduated compression hosiery? Help us show how our new HeelSafe DVT hose are more comfortable, easier to don and remove, and better for your patients by keeping the pressure off the heel.

We'd like to continue this conversation. If you're attending  the SAWC Spring conference in Atlanta next month, we'll be there, in booth #924. We hope to see you there.

Questions? We love to hear your feedback. E-mail me at this address with any comments you have.

Sincerely,

The study sets out to compare the differences between complete offloading and "standard care" in the prevention of heel pressure ulcers in post-hip fracture patients. The randomized control trial (RCT) was conducted in the fracture trauma unit of a major tertiary referral center in Belfast, Ireland.

"[The Heelift] really takes pressure off even if the patient moves; it's easier to install. It can be used in bed or in wheelchair. The ulcer on his left heel, which was present for at least 2 months, is completely cured after 2 weeks. [The patient] now keeps the Heelift to prevent a new ulcer."
