clinician's bulletin

November 2011

Dear

The issue of pressure ulcers in long term care facilities is fairly simple. You have a population of residents who are more likely to be at risk for pressure ulcers, people who require a lot of care for other problems. You also have caregivers and clinicians stretched to the limit, trying to treat a host of different conditions, all of which are, if not more important than pressure ulcers, at least more immediate.

Thankfully, the solution can be simple as well. Facilities that use the Heelift® Suspension Boot can rest assured that the second most common place for a pressure ulcer, the heel, is taken care of. By completely offloading the heel, the Heelift creates a pressure-free environment that is ideal for both treatment and prevention of heel pressure ulcers.

Don't take our word for it. Request a sample of the Heelift by using the link below. We know you'll find the Heelift to be the easiest to use and the most effective. Your facility will find the Heelift to be the best value for the cost. And your patients will find that the Heelift stays in place, is comfortable, and protects their heels better than other boots on the market.

We have a wealth of information available on our website, especially in our new Nursing Station where you'll find more articles, videos and information about how the Heelift can help your patients.

Questions? Comments? Please do not hesitate to contact me here. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Pressure Ulcers Among Nursing Home Residents:
United States, 2004
books
Eunice Park-Lee, Ph.D., and Christine Caffrey, Ph.D., Division of Health Care Statistics

Overall, 11% of nursing home residents had pressure ulcers in 2004. Various demographic and clinical factors were related to having a pressure ulcer in a nursing home. Residents in a nursing home for a year or less since admission, who had a recent weight loss, or who had high immobility had the highest prevalence of pressure ulcers. Among residents with a pressure ulcer of stage 2 or higher, 35% received special wound care services. This suggests that a minority of nursing home residents with stage 2 or higher pressure ulcers received wound care in accordance with the clinical practice guidelines.
