clinician's bulletin

August 2011

Dear

As summer winds down, there are a few things we know. Our complaints about the heat will soon yield to fond memories of sitting on the beach. The kids will be back to school and losing their lunchboxes, and the fall wound care conferences are just around the corner.

Of course, DM Systems will be there with our industry-leading Heelft® Suspension Boot. We'll be at Wild on Wounds at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. We'll be at the Clinical Symposium on Advances in Wound Care at the Gaylord National, and we'll be back in Las Vegas for the SAWC Fall meeting, this time at the Rio. Not to mention the regional conferences that are too numerous to mention here.

Of course we'll have the Heelift there, but also our new Heelift® AFO and HeelSafe™ DVT Hose, plus plenty of clinical information.

If you're registered for these shows, look for a special mailing from us, featuring an opportunity to help us learn more about your needs (oh, and win $500 in the process).

You'll notice that our Featured Article this month deals with pressure mapping. It's a topic we take seriously, as our own pressure mapping study shows. Not only does our Heelift Suspension Boot outperform the other products, it does so at an affordable cost. The study is just a part of the new Nursing Station on our website. There, you'll find links to clinical articles, success stories, and more.

As always, if you'd like to see how the Heelift Suspension Boot can work for your patients, complete the Sample Request Form below. You can also contact us at (800) 254-5438  or e-mail us.

Sincerely,

Denis B. Drennan, MD
President, DM Systems Inc.

Can pressure mapping prevent ulcers?

books

An emerging technology called pressure mapping, although not a replacement for pressure ulcer risk assessment and regular skin assessments, may help prevent pressure ulcers by acting as a screening tool. A pressure map can provide information about what's going on under your patient's skin, potentially alerting you to high-pressure areas before skin reddens.

The authors provide a road map to using pressure mapping in the prevention of pressure ulcers.

"The patient states it (the Heelift) is very comfortable. The staff reports it is easy to use. The patient had a boggy heel when the Heelift was placed, and the heel firmed up after one week."
