Dear   ,

It's a basic, but unavoidable fact: heel pressure ulcers cause pain. They also cost money to treat. They take a short time to develop, but a long time to heal. That's why prevention is so important.

NPUAP/EPUAP has developed guidelines for the treatment and prevention of pressure ulcers in general, and heel pressure ulcers in particular. I urge you, if you haven't already, to take advantage of their educational opportunities. Their Quick Reference Guide is a must for any clinician whose patients are at risk.

At DM Systems, we strive to provide not only the best pressure relieving products available today, but also the education and guidance you need to help prevent and treat heel pressure ulcers. That's why our Resource Center contains not just information about our products, but also clinical papers, testimonials and videos. Our Heelift Savings Calculator will show how the Heelift® family of products can save you the time, expense, and pain of treating heel pressure ulcers.

The Heelift name has been synonymous with high quality pressure relief for more than three decades. Visit our website at www.heelift.com to find out why.

Sincerely,

Denis B. Drennan, MD
President, DM Systems Inc.

by Patricia Iyer, RN MSN LNCC

books
Litigation over hospital-acquired pressure ulcers represents a significant fraction of a medical malpractice attorney's caseload.  The issues have shifted since October 2008 when CMS and several private payers began denying reimbursement for care related to hospital-acquired stage III and IV pressure sores. Mrs. Iyer, with 20+ years as a legal nurse consultant, reminds us of the importance of pressure ulcer education including:
  • What a Pressure Ulcer is and is NOT
  • Standardized Set of Definitions to Stage an Ulcer
  • Implications of Pressure Ulcers
  • Development of Stage III and IV Pressure Ulcers Raises Issues of Liability

"It is the best product I have seen, used, touched in 15 yrs. I have worked in LTC for 10+ years. Now in a podiatry clinic. I wish I had known of this product years ago. I will recommend it to my previous employer. My PT has told me they "LOVE IT" The boot stays in place. The wound is improving as a direct result."
