Dear ,
DM Systems would like to announce the launch of the
Heelift® Savings Calculator, now available at
http://heelift.com/heeliftcalculator.html. The web-based application
assists a broad range of medical professionals, including WOCNs, physicians,
material managers, and administrators in analyzing a facility's annual cost
associated with heel pressure ulcers as well as providing the projected cost
savings by using Heelift Suspension Boot. The hospital-acquired
pressure ulcer prevalence rate is about 7.3% for all pressure ulcer sites, with
the heel representing the second most common site for pressure ulcers. The
Heelift Savings Calculator illustrates the high cost for treating heel
pressure ulcers and then demonstrates how a high quality heel pressure
redistribution device like Heelift Suspension Boot can help prevent heel
pressure ulcers, thus lowering the facility's overall costs while improving the
quality of patient care. Once the raw data has been
input into the Heelift Savings Calculator application, calculations are
displayed line by line as well as in an easy-to-read graph that can be printed
easily for sharing among a facility's staff. Detailed notes defining how each
calculation is determined can be easily accessed.
Sincerely,
Denis B. Drennan President DM Systems, Inc.

Hospitalizations Related to Pressure Ulcers among Adults 18 Years and Older C. Allison Russo, M.P.H., Claudia Steiner, M.D., M.P.H., and William Spector, Ph.D.
December 2008
Pressure ulcers typically result from prolonged periods of uninterrupted
pressure on the skin, soft tissue, muscle, and bone. Vulnerable
patients include the elderly, stroke victims, patients with diabetes,
those with dementia, and people who use wheelchairs or who are
bedridden-any patient with impaired mobility or sensation. Pressure
ulcers cause extreme discomfort to the patient and often lead to
serious, life threatening infections, which substantially increase the
total cost of care.

"With this boot, if applied correctly, there was no pressure on the
heel. Great. ... This [resident] had the potential to break down much
worse as she had an amputation on the other leg two years prior, which
started from an heel ulcer. I will recommend this [Heelift] boot to
anyone."
