A Message from the County Administrator
I'm thrilled at the opening of Horse Stamp Church Road interchange, or Exit 22, on Interstate 95. It officially opened during the second week of April. This $10.9 million dollar project was funded by the Georgia Department of Transportation's State Transportation Improvement Program Grant. The new interchange presents great opportunities for Camden County's future.
In the Special Election held on March 6, 2012, voters approved for the governing authority of Camden County to be authorized to permit and regulate package sales by retailers of malt beverages, wine and distilled spirits, for off premises consumption on Sundays between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. A series of public hearings were held regarding this matter. On Tuesday, April 17th, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved amendments to the Official Code of Camden County, Chapter 6, Alcoholic Beverages, Section 6-10 Hours of Sale to include the addition of paragraph 5 authorizing licensed retailers within the unincorporated district to sell alcoholic beverages for off premises consumption on Sundays between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The first date of authorized sales began on Sunday, April 22nd.
Preparations for the Fiscal Year 2013 Budget are still currently underway. Over the past three years there has been a 21.3% decline in revenues which represents $4 million in less funding for county operations. The 2013 budget will most likely be below the 2007 spending levels. My goal is to present a balanced Fiscal Year 2013 Budget to the Board of County Commissioners on May 15th.
I look forward to working with each of you as we continue to move Camden County forward in 2012.
Yours for a better Camden,
Steve L. Howard, CPM, CPPO County Administrator |
