A Message from the County Administrator
I hope you all are enjoying this Fall season! Recently, at a 2011 Economic Summit on November 2nd, I was encouraged by a presentation of the economic key outcomes that were determined for successful economic growth in our community. All of the City and County economic development organizations within Camden were present at this event. The underlining theme of this initiative is the willingness to embrace a well-coordinated team approach for improving the economic development of Camden County in a more strategic way. I applaud all who are involved for taking a very positive step in the right direction concerning this opportunity for these various entities to work closer together for the overall good of our community. [Learn more about this initiative...] As we observed Veteran's Day on November 11th, I'd like to thank the Veteran's for your service to our country and for the sacrifices you've made. I wish you all a safe and HAPPY THANKSGIVING holiday with your family and friends! I look forward to working with each of you as we continue to move Camden County forward.
Sincerely,
Steve L. Howard, CPM, CPPO County Administrator

Camden County Curbside Rates Adjusted for Customers in Unincorporated Areas
Each year, the County's Solid Waste Ordinance calls for a review of the rates to ensure they cover the cost of service. A 10-year history shows that rates were decreased by 4% despite an increase in expenses by 18%. Rates have traditionally been well below the actual costs for each account due to subsidies that are no longer available.
The most recent review occurred in June 2011 to coincide with the County's fiscal year. The rate of $14.50 is the true cost of operating the service, and the Solid Waste Authority and Board of County Commissioners agreed to adopt this amount by a vote on June 07, 2011 in a public meeting to adjust the rates beginning July 01, 2011. The rate is in-line with the level of service provided by other counties and the department continues to find ways to save on expenses to keep the rates as low as possible. [Additional information]
