A Message from the County Administrator
HAPPY FALL! Camden County Government continues to strive to meet our strategic goals of ensuring that our citizens are provided excellent service. The Citizens' Academy program will hold its last session this month for 2011. This program has been an exceptional community outreach tool over the past several years to educate our citizens about the operations of their local government.
The Camden County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill one (1) vacancy on the St. Marys River Management Committee (SMRMC) as an At-Large County representative, as well as one (1) vacancy on the Camden County Board of Family and Children Services (DFACS). Qualified Applicants should submit their intent to serve in writing to the Board of County Commissioners office by completing the Citizen Board Application Form. These positions will remain open until filled. To assist those who struggle with poverty and hunger in our community, Camden County Government's HOPE Committee, in partnership with CCHS SkillsUSA, is hosting the annual food drive to collect non-perishable food items to benefit those in need during this season. Items can be dropped off in the designated boxes at County offices and Camden County High School. For more information, or to have a bin delivered to your office, please contact County Clerk Katie Bishop at (912) 576-5651.
As always, I look forward to working with each of you as we continue to move Camden County forward.
Sincerely,
Steve L. Howard, CPM, CPPO County Administrator |
Camden County Curbside Rates Adjusted for Customers in Unincorporated Areas
Each year, the County's Solid Waste Ordinance calls for a review of the rates to ensure they cover the cost of service. A 10-year history shows that rates were decreased by 4% despite an increase in expenses by 18%. Rates have traditionally been well below the actual costs for each account due to subsidies that are no longer available.
The most recent review occurred in June 2011 to coincide with the County's fiscal year. The rate of $14.50 is the true cost of operating the service, and the Solid Waste Authority and Board of County Commissioners agreed to adopt this amount by a vote on June 07, 2011 in a public meeting to adjust the rates beginning July 01, 2011. The rate is in-line with the level of service provided by other counties and the department continues to find ways to save on expenses to keep the rates as low as possible. [Additional information]

Daylight Savings Time Ends
Don't forget to turn back your clocks one hour on Sunday, November 6th when Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends. To make it easier to remember which way the clock goes, keep in mind one of these sayings: "spring forward, fall back" or "spring ahead, fall behind."
As a safety reminder, many fire departments encourage people to change the batteries in their smoke detectors when they change their clocks. |
