A Message from the County Administrator
Steve L. Howard, County Administrator
I am pleased to announce that Camden County's Video Tourbook community streaming videos are now live on our homepage! Residents and visitors can view brief clips on areas of interest, such as Quality of Life, Real Estate and Relocation, Education, Local Film Industry, Leisure Services, and Economic Development in Camden County.

On March 08, 2011 during a scheduled Work Session, we will be seeking input from the Board of County Commissioners on establishing a comprehensive road paving and resurfacing list. This will allow the County to be in a better position when funding opportunities become available.

Additionally, the County is working on preparing the Fiscal Year 2012 Budget which will  be challenging as we continue to navigate through the economic storm.

As always, I look forward to working with each of you as we continue to move Camden County forward!

Sincerely,
Steve L. Howard, CPM, CPPO
County Administrator
Interstate Overpass to CLOSE at Horse Stamp Church Road

Camden County's Department of Public Works will close Horse Stamp Church Road bridge at Interstate 95 beginning March 14, 2011 for a scheduled period of 270 days for the replacement of the bridge and construction of a new interchange. Residents on the west side of the interstate will need to use Horse Stamp Church Road and Spring Bluff Road as a detour. Residents on the east side of the bridge will be required to use Ella Park Church Road as a detour.

Seaboard Construction & Roger's Bridge teamed together and was awarded the contract for this project in 2010. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will be overseeing the construction.

The Board of County Commissioners and the Department of Public Works appreciates cooperation and patience of the citizens during this process.

Jazz n' Art on Woodbine's Satilla Riverwalk

Jazz n' ArtThe Woodbine Woman's Club working with the Camden County Board of Commissioners has been awarded a Grassroots Invitational Grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts. In making the award, the Council stated, "Receipt of this highly competitive award is testament to the quality of Woodbine Woman's Club art programs and the contributions you make to the cultural life of Georgia".  The intent of the grant is to support arts programming and services as broadly as possible in every county in the state. Funded projects will create opportunities for community-wide access to the arts, target underserved populations and contribute to activities that have a positive impact on community development. Additionally, funded projects must be accessible and available to the general public or designed as outreach to specific underserved populations.

The Woodbine Woman's Club will use the grant funds to sponsor Jazz 'n Art on the Woodbine Satilla Riverwalk on Sunday, March 20, 2011 beginning at 1:00 PM.  Offered for the third year, the Club is developing this event to showcase the fine arts and skilled craftsmanship of Camden's Arts Community.  Students and young artists are invited. This year they hope to also attract writers, storytellers, and play actors to increase the awareness of the literary arts. Music will be provided by 2 Jazz groups; Michael Hulett with saxophone and voice will begin at the Gazebo at 1 PM followed by the Phil Morrison Trio at 3 PM.  The musicians are looking forward to some spontaneous jam time between performances.

Woodbine Woman's Club invites you to participate in the third Jazz 'n Art on the Woodbine Satilla Riverwalk on Sunday, March 20, 2011.  The Club is seeking artists and master crafts people in all media to display and sell original works of art and crafts along the Riverwalk in Woodbine (no re-sell or commissioned items).

Relay for LifeThe Board of County Commissioner's HOPE Team has combined charitable efforts with the Camden County Sheriff's Office Team to make an even bigger difference in Camden County!  The team's first joint effort will be participating in the 2011 Relay For Life of Camden County to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society (ACS) to help save more lives from cancer. The theme for this year's Relay For Life is "Heroes for Hope".

The HOPE Team will be hosting a "Kids Safety Day" on Saturday, March 26th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the K-Mart parking lot in Kingsland. Parents...bring your kids out and join us for a day of promoting safety, charity, and fun in our community! Admission is $2/child or $5/family. All proceeds go towards helping the HOPE Team reach their goal of raising $5,000 for the ACS Relay For Life.

This fun-filled event will feature Fire Trucks, Ambulances, Police Cars, K9 Units, the Air Evac Helicopter, Smokey the Bear, the Fire Safety Burn House and Camden County's Famous Safety Clowns!  Caroline, the Pink Heals Fire Truck, will be there promoting Breast Cancer Awareness. Children will have the opportunity to tour each of these safety vehicles, learn the functions of each, meet public safety officials, as well as make finger print cards, get their faces painted, play games, win prizes and much more!

So mark you calendars and join us for an exciting day to help raise money for Camden County's Relay for Life 2011!  If you have questions regarding this event, please contact Katie Bishop at (912) 576-5651 or via email at [email protected].
