A Message from the County Administrator
Steve L. Howard, County Administrator
Fall is officially among us and Camden County Government continues to strive to meet our strategic goals of ensuring that our citizens are provided excellent service.

I believe that the cornerstone of every successful organization is exceptional customer service."Customer service is not something you talk about - its something you demonstrate." During October 4-8, Camden County Government will participate in National Customer Service Week for the third year in a row. The employees of the Board of County Commissioners are dedicated to demonstrating our commitment to service. We understand the vital role customer service plays in providing a positive image for our organization. To show our appreciation and dedication to both our internal and external customers, all Board of County Commissioners' employees are required to undergo customer service training during National Customer Service Week. All Constitutional and independent Board run offices are invited to attend this training as well.

I am pleased to announce that the contract for construction of the Horse Stomp Church Road Interchange was recently awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation to Seaboard Construction. This project should be underway soon and will take approximately two years to complete.

We also received great news from the JDA that the Altamaha Techinical Callege recently selected a site near Exit 7 on Interstate 95 in Camden County for its new campus. [Additional info...]

As always, I look forward to working with each of you as we continue to move Camden County forward!

Sincerely,
Steve L. Howard, CPM, CPPO

Smoke Alarms: Up, Down and All Around - CCFR Reinforces Newer Smoke Alarm Recommendations
Fire Prevention LogoCamden County Fire Rescue (CCFR) will be partnering with the other local fire departments during Fire Prevention Week, October 3-9, to promote the campaign "Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With!" in area schools.  Through these educational events, the county's children will learn more about the power of smoke alarms, along with several other topics relating to fire safety.

"Many homes in our community may not have any smoke alarms, not enough smoke alarms, alarms that are too old, or alarms that are not working," says Chris Goebel, Fire Marshal of CCFR. "We want residents to understand that working smoke alarms are needed in every home, on every level, outside each sleeping area and inside each bedroom. And, if a smoke alarm is 10 years old or older, it needs to be replaced. Smoke alarms can mean the difference between life and death in a fire."

To find out more about Fire Prevention Week programs and activities in Camden County, please contact the Camden County Fire Marshal's Office at (912) 729-3911 or (912) 510-4302. To learn more about "Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With!," visit NFPA's Web site at www.firepreventionweek.org.
