A Message from the County Administrator
 I am pleased to present to you our new and improved monthly Community Outreach newsletter!
I am also excited to announce that Camden County was recently selected to received two National Achievement Awards by the National Association of Counties (NACo) for programs we have established which contribute to and enhance county government. These programs include: STEMI - Saving Lives in the Field and Going Green - Saving Green. To be formally recognized nationally allows Camden County to share our accomplishments with other counties across the nation. Camden County will be recognized at NACo's 14th Annual Awards Ceremony in Washoe County, NV on Sunday, July 18, 2010.
I wish you a safe and happy 4th of July holiday! I look forward to working with each of you as we continue to move Camden County forward!

Primary Election - July 20, 2010
 Camden County's Board of Registrars office is in full swing - already accepting votes for the Primary Election. Early voting began on Monday, June 7th and will continue until July 16th at the Board of Registrar's Office, located inside the Historic Courthouse, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, Monday - Friday. Touch screen voting machines are used in all early voting.
Advanced voting will be held the week before the July 20th Primary Election from July 12th through July 16th, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, at the following voting precincts: - South St. Marys Precinct - Union Hall
- Kingsland Precinct - Board of Education Annex
- Board of Registrars Office - Historic Courthouse, Woodbine

"Its A Family Affair" at the 42nd Annual Independence Day Celebration - Saturday, July 3, 2010
 Come out and join the fun in downtown St. Marys on Saturday, July 3, 2010 for the 42nd Annual Independence Day Celebration sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of St. Marys! Activities include 5K & 10K Races, Pancake Breakfast, Arts & Crafts, Entertainment, Fireworks, and more!

Boston Butts for sale to benefit The Miracle League of Camden County
 Camden County Government's HOPE Committee will be hosting a Boston Butt sale on Saturday, August 14th at Fire Station 10 (125 North Gross Road, Kingsland) to benefit The Miracle League of Camden County. Tickets will go on sale on Thursday, July 1st. Please contact Chris Goebel at (912) 552-4832 if you wish to pre-order your meat by purchasing a ticket. The cost is $25 per boston butt.
The Miracle League allows any child with a disability the opportunity to play baseball. The Miracle League field in Camden County is being built in honor of Justin Norris, and will be named "Justin's Miracle Field." Visit The Miracle League of Camden County for more information. |
Coastal Georgia Rail-Trail Officially Opened
 The first 3.5-mile section of the Georgia Coast Rail-Trail officially opened on Saturday, June 5, with a 10:00 a.m. dedication ceremony at the White Oak Post Office just north of Woodbine on Highway 17. To celebrate the opening, Camden County and Coastal Georgia Rails to Trails invited trail lovers of all ages to come out and explore the trail, on foot or bicycle. [Additional Info...] |
Annual Fishing Derby Held
 Camden County's MSW Landfill held its 18th annual Fishing Derby on June 12, 2010. In January every year, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) brings in baby catfish which are grain fed and ready for the Fishing Derby in June. This event not only brings great fun and excitement for the children, but also for the volunteers.

NSP Grant Extended to August 31, 2010
 The Downpayment Assistance Grant for foreclosed homes provided through the Department of Community Affairs for foreclosed properties has been extended to August 31, 2010. Camden County has received a grant from the Department of Community Affairs to help prospective homebuyers by providing downpayment and closing cost assistance for low, moderate, and medium income persons who wish to purchase a home. Homes purchased must be foreclosures within Camden County and meet local and state codes adopted by Camden County for the 2009 NSP Program (Extended to August 31, 2010). Showcase Camden County Photo Contest
 Camden County's natural landscapes, historic beauty, and unique events provide limitless opportunities to capture through the lens of a camera. The Board of County Commissioners invites you to participate in the 2010 "Showcase Camden County" photo contest by submitting your best photos of the attractions that contribute to making Camden County "Georgia's Coastal Community of Choice!"

Baila! Fitness "Exercise in Disguise"
The County's Wellness Program was created to help manage the costs of the Employee Health Plan. Our primary goal is to offer as many programs to appeal to as many employees as possible.
Zumba - derived from a Columbia word meaning "to move fast and have fun" - is a Latin-inspired, dance fitness class that is being offered to County employees and members of the community. Prices differ for employee and public participation.
Zumba incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements creating a dynamic, exciting and effective workout. The format includes easy-to-follow steps that sculpt all major muscle groups while conditioning the heart.
All County employees and members of the community are invited to "Ditch Your Workout & Join The Party!"
When: Tuesdays & Thursdays

Governor Perdue Signed Two Distracted Driving Bills into Law
 On June 4, 2010 Governor Sonny Perdue signed two new distracted driving bills into law for the state of Georgia, both effective July 2010.
Senate Bill 360 is the Caleb Sorohan Act and prohibits individuals from using wireless telecommunications devices for writing, sending or receiving text messages while operating a motor vehicle. House Bill 23 prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using a wireless communication device. |
