Arizona Elks "L. Cedric Austin Memorial Golf Tournament" Raises Funds for the Steele Center and Arizona Elks Youth Camp
The Arizona Elks Association held their annual L. Cedric Austin Memorial Golf Tournament August 22-23rd in Show Low, Arizona. More than 150 golfers filled two golf courses over two days. Dinner, lunch, silent and live auctions were also part of the weekend. The tournament raised money for the Arizona Elks Major Projects, which has supported the Steele Center since 1991. In that time, they have donated $4.5 million to the Steele Center. Currently, their contributions are directed to completing the Arizona Elks Endowed Chair in Neonatal Research, held by neonatologist Dr. Alan Bedrick. Thank you to all of the Elks, volunteers, and golfers who made this tournament a success! We appreciate your support and dedication to creating a healthier future for children. |

Thank You!
Heartfelt "thanks!" to the Women's Active 20-30 Club of Southern Arizona. Their hard work made this year's event --"Cocktailing for a Cause"--a huge success! Thanks to all our friends and supporters who attended as well. Funds raised from this year's event will support our research and clinical programs.
Thank you to American Openings and Tucson Toros for selecting the Steele Center as this year's 4th of July Tucson Toros "Star Spangled Spectactular" featured charity. This was a great opportunity for us to raise community awareness of the Steele Center--and have a blast at the same time! Additional thanks to our friends and supporters who came out for the game. |
Salpointe's "Games for the Greater Good" Dedicates Football Game to Steele Center
As part of Salpointe's "Games for the Greater Good," the Salpointe High School football team will dedicate their game on October 30 to raising awareness about type 1 diabetes on behalf of the Steele Center. To learn more about "Games for the Greater Good," click here.
On July 30, Steele Center pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Mark Wheeler gave a presentation to the football team about what it's like for children to live with and manage their diabetes. Each team member had his blood sugar tested with a finger prick to obtain a small blood sample that was then measured by a glucose meter. Pictured below: football team members proudly displaying their poked fingers--and learning what it's like to manage type 1 diabetes. |
