'Fathers of the Year' Awards Gala and Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Steele Center Type 1 Diabetes
Father's Day Council Tucson held its 15th annual Fathers of the Year Awards Dinner and Gala on Saturday, June 13, and their 3rd annual Golf Classic on Friday, May 29th.
FDC Tucson honored four fathers this year: Rick Fink, Restauranteur & Owner, Hacienda del Sol, Zona 78 and Harvest Restaurants; Gary Kippur, President, Tucson Iron & Metal; José Rincon, Therapeutic Specialist, Pfizer Inc., and Les White, Multi-Franchise Owner, Subway Restaurants. All proceeds from FDC Tucson support the type 1 diabetes clinical and research programs and endowment at the Steele Center. FDC Tucson has raised more than $2 million over the past 15 years!

Congratulations! Steele Center Researcher Receives Award
Nicholas Larmonier, PhD,
a pediatric cancer researcher with the UA Steele Children's Research Center, received the Outstanding Faculty Award given by The
Honors College at the UA April 22 for his dedication to teaching and
commitment to mentoring. A research assistant professor
specializing in hematology/oncology, Dr. Larmonier earned a doctorate
in biochemistry from the Faculty of Medicine, Dijon, France, in 2004,
and completed a PhD fellowship at the UA's Steele Children's Research
Center in 2006. The Honors College is a community of scholars
that promotes the growth and development of students through
challenging courses and activities. The College recognizes Dr.
Larmonier as an outstanding research mentor and thesis adviser. |

Meet Our Inspiration: Steele Center "Tribute Cards" Feature Patients and Their Stories
Five special patients--Gavin, Ian, Ilaria, Jade and Syd--share their stories on our new "tribute cards"--now available with a donation of $20 or more.
These cards are a great way to spread the news about the Steele Center and our never-ending quest to improve children's health through teaching, healing and research.Each box contains10 cards (two cards of each child).
