PANDA Event Raises Funds to Create the 'PANDA Children's Neurological Center'

The PANDA's 10th annual 'Children Helping Children' Fashion Show took place on April 25 at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix. This inspiring event raised funds to help establish the 'PANDA Children's Neurological Center' in Tucson. "We are optimistic that we will reach our tenth anniversary goal of $1 million dollars," said Robyn DeBell, president and co-founder of PANDA.

Approximately 800 people attended and were delighted by the children's fashion show, the electrifying entertainment by Dan Dunn's Paintjam, silent and live auctions, and meeting this year's honoree--Dr. Fayez K. Ghishan, the Director of the Steele Center.

"Right now, countless children in Tucson and Southern Arizona with neurological problems are not receiving many of the sub-specialty services they need, because we don't have centers to provide this coordinated care," said developmental and behavioral pediatrician, Sydney Rice, MD.  "The Center will provide all of the specialty care services these children need in one location." Phoenix Middle School Donates More Than 700 Books to the Steele Center

Students from Madison Meadows Middle School in Phoenix recently donated more than 700 gently used and new books to the Steele Children's Research Center.

"Every year, Madison Meadows acknowledges 'Read Across America' in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday," said Desha Whitney-Wikle, the teacher who coordinated the book drive.

"As a member of PANDA (People Acting Now Discover Answers), the Phoenix Woman's Board of the Steele Children's Research Center, I knew our amazing children and their families would be happy to donate the books to the Steele Center. These kids' inspired me with their hard work and dedication," said Whitney-Wikle.

The Steele Center distributed the books to the Arizona Elks Clinic for Children and Young Adults. Children can choose books to read while waiting for their doctor's appointment, and take a book home with them the keep. "These books will make so many children at the clinic happy," said Lori Stratton, Associate Director of Development for the Steele Center. "We're grateful for their generosity."
