President's Message
President -- Karol Pokley, CAVS |
"Hats off" to our Education chairs for a successful Education Day on Tuesday, September 22! This day was action packed with volunteer management sessions, networking, a legislative update and an annual meeting.
MHA generously donated lunch and Lakeland Regional graciously provided fabulous "giant" cookies.
The idea to hold an education day was born out of member feedback and "out of the box" thinking by your board. It fulfilled a desire to keep costs at a minimum, yet provide professional education and networking to our members. For those of you that attended, I hope you saw great value in it. For those that were unable to attend, I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity in the future. I don't think you will regret it! |
Education Update
|
We had a fantastic turnout last month for our Education Day in Lansing. Linda Fites and Kathy Zaguroli both did a fantastic job, giving us valuable tools to help us with our jobs. Your feedback given on event surveys was extremely positive!
We have posted both presentations given by Linda and Kathy on the MCDVS website for those of you that were unable to attend this event. Click here to view these presentations.
Be sure to "Save the Date" for our spring conference to be held Wednesday, May 19, 2010 - Friday, May 21, 2010, at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City. We will be bringing in national speaker Jill Friedman Fixler. Look for more details early next year. |
Regional Facilitators Announced
|
I am very happy to announce your MCDVS Regional Facilitators for 2009-2010.

MCDVS's goal is to be able to offer networking and education to all members throughout the entire year. Regional meetings are a vital way to share problems, solutions, ideas and fellowship without much expense. The majority of these meetings will be held this winter and next summer. Please consider attending any of our regional meetings.
Watch for meeting dates to be announced in November, so you can mark your calendars. |
Volunteer Recognition on a Dime
|
Budget cuts? Struggling to figure out how to recognize your volunteers next year? Here are a few things I've tried in the past to lessen the financial load on our department and expand recognition efforts to the rest of the hospital.
1) Ask each department throughout the hospital to donate a door prize. We suggest gift cards to local book stores, restaurants, drug stores, etc. We were really surprised with the many donations received. We made sure to read off which department donated each gift. Volunteers were in awe of the table full of prizes and how much they are appreciated as volunteers.
2) Another year, in lieu of a banquet at an outside facility, we did a pot luck. However, it was hospital managers supplying all the food. Again, a big success. Departments really outdid themselves. Food Service even supplied a beautiful, decorated cake.
Both of these were very simple ideas, but they worked! If you have other ideas or suggestions, e-mail them to pennybrown@aghosp.com and she will include these ideas in future newsletters. | |
