President's Message
President-- Karol Pokley, CAVS |
I want to personally thank you for electing me president of this very dynamic organization. I felt welcomed into MCDVS at the very first conference that I attended 10 years ago! By electing me, it tells me that you have put your trust in me. I take this very seriously and plan to do my best to fulfill the duties of your president. As I pondered the idea of the president's role, I wondered what I should do differently? Then I thought, how do I fix something that is not broken? Our past presidents have paved the way, keeping our organization strong. I do see my role as your president to be one that stays the course during these uncertain and difficult economic times, a president that has the integrity and stick-to-it-ive-ness to endure, while maintaining our strength. I feel MCDVS's strength is in our connectivity, our communication and our compassion. I do not plan to take too much time focusing in the rearview mirror on what was in the past, but will keep my eyes forward to move ahead to see what is next. I consider it a privilege to serve as your president for this upcoming year. I look to the support and encouragement of a great board to meet the challenges that lie ahead. I am pleased to announce the following board chairs have willingly accepted the following positions:
Bylaws: Alison Feikema-Reed
Education Chair: Julie Elliot Education Co-Chair: Jacquie Karr-Zlotnicki Newsletter: Penny Brown Professional Development: Debi Schroeder Public Relations/Marketing/Historian: Nancy Babcock Membership: Kathy Daly Website: Rachael Rosas Lastly, I want to thank our past presidents and board members for making MCDVS what it is today. And remember...even though I am in the U.P., I am just an email or a phone call away.
Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to serve you. |
Spring Conference in Review
|
To all who attended the spring conference, what a wonderful opportunity to learn from each other.
The weather was beautiful, Mission Point was lovely and accommodating, and the networking was the best ever. My special thanks to Kristyn Ireland and Julie Elliott for putting on a classy conference.
As promised, here is the presentation that Debi and I gave at the conference called Teaching Volunteers How to Provide Emotional Support in a Health Care Facility. (Please note, when you click on the presentation link, a pop up "File Download" box will appear. It will ask if you want to open or save the file. Click on save. This will allow you to save this PowerPoint presentation to your computer and personalize it for your hospital.)
It has been an honor to serve as your president for this past year, and as I watched Karol Pokley become the newest MCDVS president, I understood the look of pride that I see on all past-president's faces during installation. It is an awesome group to be a part of, and I look forward to a long partnership with our organization.
To those who were unable to attend, you were missed and we hope to see you at the next one. |
