TERIS Achieves U.S. Dept. of Commerce "Safe Harbor" Certification

ALC LargeOur Austin office is the first TERIS location to achieve U.S. Dept. of Commerce "Safe Harbor" Certification. Having the "Safe Harbor" designation allows approved firms such as TERIS access to European databases of private information.

About the Safe Harbor Program
In 1998, the European Commission's Directive on Data Protection went into effect, prohibiting the transfer of personal data to non-European Union nations that do not meet European "adequacy" standards for privacy protection. In order to bridge different privacy approaches, the U.S. Department of Commerce in consultation with the European Commission European Commission, branch of the governing body of the European Union (EU) invested with executive and some legislative powers. Located in Brussels, Belgium, it was founded in 1967 when the three treaty organizations comprising what was then the European Community  developed the "Safe Harbor" framework. The Safe Harbor has become an important vehicle for U.S. companies to avoid experiencing interruptions in their business dealings with the EU.

If you are working on a case that requires "Safe Harbor" level security, please contact us.
