Have you heard the news? ALC Legal Technologies will soon become TERIS!

As 2008 draws to a close, we want to thank our clients and partners - whose support propelled us to yet another successful year. The New Year brings opportunity for change, innovation and discovery.

Since our inception as a company nearly 13 years ago, we have continuously evolved to maintain our leadership position within the litigation support industry. What began in Seattle with one employee and one copy machine has grown to be one of the largest full-service litigation support companies in the Western US.  With our six offices and 250+ employees, we have been delivering timely, innovative technology solutions to law firms and corporations alike.

To reflect these changes - as well as to fully unite our growing number of offices and resources - we have decided that the time is right for an important change.  So it's with great pleasure and excitement to announce that as of January 1, 2009, our company name is officially changing to TERIS.

New name.  Same mission. Same Ownership

While we officially take our new name in January, our mission to create timely customized solutions with a high ROI for our clients remains the same.

When our founder Stefan Wikstrom chose the name American Legal Copy (ALC) for the company's first office in Seattle, it perfectly reflected the only service we provided at the time.  And while our clients understand it and feel connected to our name, those who don't know us are often confused, thinking that we only provide traditional copy services. Since the company's inception, we have added five new offices - two of them with their own name.  The time has come to unite our offices under one name and begin this exciting new chapter in our history.

Be on the lookout for an invitation to a special event in 2009 celebrating our new name and benefitting a local non-profit organization. You will also begin to see TERIS on our e-newsletter, publications, our web site and our campaigns, starting on January 1, 2009.

Happy Holidays and best wishes for a very prosperous New Year - we certainly look forward to sharing it with you.

What does TERIS Mean?
(and other burning questions & answers!)

Question Mark
Q.           Why did you change your name?
A.            We have decided that now is the time to create a strong single brand for the six offices in our company and to more fully utilize the combined resources across all locations. In addition, our new name allows us to position ourselves as a technology-driven service provider, rather than simply a legal copy company (as the old ALC name implied to many).

Q.           Does this mean your company was bought by someone else?
A.            No. The ownership structure for the company remains exactly the same. This was a strategic decision the current ownership group decided to take collectively.

Q.           What does "Teris" mean?
A.            Teris by itself has no definition - it is similar to other company names such as Zillow, Google and Yahoo in that way. We selected an abstract name because we have plans to grow with new services in new markets and did not want to be pigeon-holed into specific industries or services.

Q.           What makes you different from your competitors?
A.            At a time when many of our competitors are retracting (or going out of business entirely), we have continued to heavily invest in key technologies and resources to ensure that our clients have the best solutions available for their needs. We have hired industry experts and dramatically increased our technical processing capabilities. We also continue to have one of the longest average employee tenures in the industry and a solid focus on personal, customized service.

Q.           How will this affect clients?

A.            By better utilizing the resources across all of our locations, we are confident that we can provide even greater service to our client base. From a logistical standpoint, clients will start noticing the new name and logo in our materials (including invoices) beginning January 1, 2009.

Q.           Will the company raise prices with this change?
A.            No. There are no plans currently to change the prices for our services. Any changes that are made in the future will be tied directly to business and market conditions.

Q.           Will the company change the range of services offered?
A.            Absolutely. We have many exciting plans to expand and enhance our technology service offerings so stay tuned for announcements in this area. Our new brand will better tie together all of our offices so that you we can offer a greater range of services that will help clients adapt to the ever-changing business and market conditions.

Q.           Why did you choose Teris as your new company name?
A.            We evaluated more than 200 potential new names for the company and deliberately chose an abstract name because we want our actions and results to define our brand and position in the market. We like Teris because it reminds us of "Terrace" - which reflects our elevated position within the market. We also like it because it does not pigeon hole us into a specific market/industry.

Q.           Will the company contact information change?
A.            The phone numbers, fax numbers and mailing addresses will not change. Our new Web site is www.DiscoverTeris.com and our e-mail addresses will be changed to firstinitiallastname@discoverteris.com.

Please contact your Account Manager if you have any questions!

Drawing Contest Winners To Be Announced Next Week!  Child Drawing
Thank you to all for the wave of entries received for our "Draw your parent (or relative) at work contest." Our judges are carefully reviewing all entries and expect to announce the winner next week. First place will receive a $500 bond certificate, while 2nd place will win a $250 savings bond and 3rd place will be awarded a $100 savings bond.

All other contestants will receive a $25 gift card from Toys R Us as a thank you for their participation.

We originally planned to include these drawings in a 2009 calendar that we would distribute to the legal community. But given that one of the our goals as a company in 2009 is to be a more Green enterprise, we decided against printing thousands of calendars and saving those resources.  So rather than having to showcase only 12 drawings on a printed calendar, we have decided to use the power of the web and to show ALL entries on our new website. Be sure to check DiscoverTeris.com after the first of the year to see the talented drawings submitted.

Happy Holidays from TERIS!  Winter Fun
We hope you are able to enjoy this festive season with your loved ones. But we realize that even though it's the holiday season, it doesn't mean your litigation needs stop! So we are available to serve you throughout this season, with the exception of Christmas and New Year's Day, when we will be closed.

We are ending 2008  with a bang - and are very excited about 2009. Stay tuned for more new events programs and contests from TERIS in the coming year. And please be sure to let us know how we can improve our service!

Sincerely,
