From Women, War and Peace
"Women Struggle to Be Heard at Afghan Peace Jirga"

Image: PBS WNET

Earlier this month a small group of women were part of the over 1,600 delegates gathered for a jirga in Afghanistan. "The jirga is a traditional gathering in which Afghan leaders try to solve problems facing the country. This one focuses on how to end nearly nine years of war with the Taliban."

Women, War & Peace producer Claudia Rizzi was in Afghanistan to follow the women who fought hard for months in order to be included in the process. You can listen to a podcast about her observations at the jirgia by clicking here >>

Their story is one one of the ones being told by Women War & Peace, the latest project from Pray the Devil Back to Hell Producer Abigail E. Disney and Director Gini Reticker. The five part series, which will air on PBS WIDE ANGLE will mark the US broadcast premiere for Pray the Devil Back to Hell

 Around the World with PTDBH

Pray the Devil Back to Hell debuted at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. Two years later the film continues to screen in all corners of the globe and inspire conversations about women, peace and the future. In June the film will screen in New York State, London and Cairo.

In New York the Lake Placid Film Forum will show Pray the Devil Back to Hell as part of their 2010 festival. The following day there will be a panel discussion entitled “Never Underestimate the Power of a Woman.”

In Cairo PTDBH will screen as part of the Second Cairo Refugee Film Festival commemorating World Refugee Day. The film will be subtitled in Arabic, helping it reach an even larger audience.

And finally at the end of June PTDBH will screen at the The Tricycle Theatre Cinema and Gallery in London as part of their Women, Power and Politics Season.
