This Sunday, May 9th, is the second Sunday in May, which means that many parts of the world will be celebrating Mother’s Day. We began principal photography for Pray the Devil Back to Hell on Mother's Day, May 13, 2007, so this day is especially meaningful to our team at Fork Films.
The abolitionist, social activist and poet Julie Ward Howe, having experienced the devastating effects of the American Civil War, issued a declaration called “Mother’s Day Proclamation” in 1870. This beautiful poem called to all the women of the world to strike for peace and contributed to the establishment of Mother's Day as we now celebrate it. (Click here to read the poem >>)
Across the country, in the spirit of Julie Ward Howe’s “Mother’s Day Proclamation” groups are gathering to advocate for peace in their communities and around the world. There are events scheduled in Main, New York, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Ohio, Kansas and Illinois just to name a few.
Still looking for a gift? Women for Women International will send a Mother’s Day card to a woman you wish to honor when you make a donation to support women survivors of war.
