Many Voices, One Story

Starts tomorrow,
November 25th

A project from Peace is Loud, a non-profit organization that was founded in response to the inspirational story told in the documentary, Pray the Devil Back to Hell.

In keeping with the mission of Peace is Loud to amplify women’s voices and recognize women’s knowledge of peace-building, Peace is Loud will be participating in The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence this year, an annual campaign that calls for the elimination of all forms of violence against women.

The theme for 2009 is
“Commit ▪ Act ▪ Demand: We CAN End Violence Against Women!”

Peace is Loud will be gathering the words, biographies and reflections of these 16 amazing women activists:
Hibaaq Osman, Abigail E. Disney, Korto Williams, Mallika Dutt, Debora Barros Fince, Terry McGovern, L. Muthoni Wanyeki, Aset Chad, Dorothy Johnson-Speight, Thelma Ekiyor, Dr. Sakena Yacoobi, Mu Sochua, Leymah Gbowee, Zainab Salbi, Teresa Mejia, and Winnie Byanyima

One woman activist will be highlighted per day from
November 25th – December 10th

Watch Novelist Isabel Allende's incredible speech on "Tales of Passion" from TED 2007

"...by age five I was a raging feminist - although the term had not yet reached Chile so nobody knew what the heck was wrong with me. But I would soon find out there was a high price to pay for my freedom, and for questioning the patriarchy. But I was happy to pay if, because for ever blow that I received, I was able to deliver two. "
