LEYMAH TO ACCEPT THE GRUBER PRIZE
Deadline to apply for a screening is October 20, 2009
Leymah Gbowee, whose story is the subject of the award-winning documentary Pray the Devil Back to Hell will receive the 2009 Gruber Prize for Women’s Rights.  In a citation, the Peter & Patricia Gruber Foundation will recognize Ms. Gbowee for “helping to build peace in her homeland by mobilizing women in a resistance movement that was instrumental in finally bringing an end to the Liberian civil war, and for continuing to promote women-power in peace building.”

Ms. Gbowee will participate in an October 30 panel on women’s rights focused on stopping violence against women and peacebuilding. As part of the Prize, she will also share a $500,000 cash award with her co-recipient, the Women’s Legal Centre of South Africa.

The Peter and Patricia Gruber Foundation honors and encourages educational excellence, social justice and scientific achievements that better the human condition.
