Movies That Matter Festival

NEWS

Pray the Devil Back to Hell Opens the Movies That Matter Festival in the Hague

Gini Reticker and Etweda Last Thursday, on April 2, 2009, PDBH opened Amnesty International's Movies That Matter Film Festival and received a two minute standing ovation! Director Gini Reticker (pictured on left) and Etweda "Sugars" Cooper (pictured on right), the secretary general of the Liberian Women’s Initiative, attended the screenings.

Her Royal Highness Princess Mabel of the Netherlands inaugurated the festival, giving an opening speech with kind words for PDBH: "I am especially pleased that the festival’s first film is "Pray the Devil Back to Hell," she said, and went on to speak about the PDBH screening in Davos at the World Economic Forum in January 2009, "...at the end of the film, you could hear a pin drop; you could hear a tear drop."

All three screenings of PDBH were sold out, and a fourth was added on April 6th. Reticker was delighted and impressed by the vibrant panels and the discussions. All in all, she summarized her experience at the festival as "a truly mind boggling few days."

PRESS: Reviews
Featured in Feminist Review

"Imagine all the worst atrocities that can be committed against women. Think of all of the greatest evils that stain a country with corruption and greed. Then, in the direst of situations, imagine how a group of women could change the face of blood and hopelessness. This is the story of Pray the Devil Back to Hell."
