FACTS and FIGURES of ILLINOIS

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

The Office of Workforce Development is committed to encouraging statewide economic development by cultivating a well-trained workforce. To accomplish this goal, the Office identifies youth, adults and dislocated workers who are eligible for assistance under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), assesses their employability skills and provides training as appropriate for identified sectors of growing employment demand. Ideally, this will lead to the placement of these individuals in self-sufficient employment. The Office also provides follow-up services leading to employment retention in high-wage and high-skilled jobs. These services are provided statewide while maintaining focus on the economic needs of each region.

"Strictly Business"

Speed Networking Luncheon is a Big Hit!

Many people felt the "Need for Speed" networking! BPCIA together with the Bridgeview and Burbank Chambers had over eighty attendees. This was a great way to network and mingle with surrounding business people.

Here's what some had to say:

"I think this is a great event! I truly enjoy the speed networking. You can reach so many people in a short time! With the 4 of us from the William Tell, we were able to talk to 56 people." Michelle D'Andrea, Sales & Catering Manager - William Tell Restaurant

"Once again you and your staff have managed to outdo yourselves. Everything was organized in a very professional manner, resulting in stimulating networking. THEN on top of all the proceedings... we are presented with GREAT food!" Roger Johnson - All American Sign Co.

We asked attendees to fill out a short survey about the speed networking process. Almost everyone liked the luncheon and thought it was a good use of time. When asked about the process many would like to see 2 or 3 minutes for each person and not go around the table again giving each person another minute. So... we listened to you! Any future speed networking luncheon will only have the "Once Around" format.

BPCIA is working with Moraine Valley Community College to put together a series of breakfast meetings presenting business-related topics.  We want the subject matter to be relevant to today's business.  Knowing that time means money in the business world, we want you to use it wisely.  Have you heard a good speaker lately, or know of a topic that would interest business people?  Please let us know.  We appreciate and look forward to your input.
