E-Scrap Pick-up Days

Acme Refining gave  BPCIA members the opportunity for waste prevention by reducing, re-using and recycling electronic scrap in our community.  End of Life Electronics impacts our land-fills.  Acme has created a new green service by "buying" your e-scrap, not charging to pick it up.  Normally a company would pay a hefty sum to have e-scrap removed.  On December 16-18 there was a container placed in the parking lot of the Bedford Park Village Hall.  Anyone was able to drop off their e-scrap any time of day or night.  Acme took these old electronic items and professionally dismantled, segregated and refined them.  E-Scrap may contain hazardous materials such as lead, mercury or chromium.  Acme will recycle and return these materials to be processed for re-use.  This collection of e-scrap had a three-fold success; by helping the environment, helping our friends get rid of unwanted e-scrap at no cost to them, and by generating revenue to the BPCIA for our efforts.    We are interested to know if you, as a BPCIA member would like to continue having e-scrap pickups on a quarterly or semi-annual basis.

BPCIA Newsletter

January 2010
President's Message:

Well, most of us have managed to survive 2009, albeit with certainly some bumps and bruises, but still breathing and hopefully ready to face the coming year with a positive, but still cautious outlook.  I think most of us realize that we're still not out of the woods yet.  Mixed signals from various markets have kept us wondering what's ahead for 2010.  The stock market has made somewhat of a rebound but the jobless rates still remain in the double digits.  Retail sales for the holiday season, usually the most lucrative, just didn't materialize as retailers had hoped.  Most stores maintained minimal inventories so as not to have an excess on their shelves after their sale season. The real estate housing market is still depressed (although previous values were certainly inflated) but there seems to be some activity starting to come back.  The commercial real estate market is predicted to be the next to show signs of devaluation.  The Banking industry has seen a dramatic number of closures of smaller institutions as regulators tighten up controls and capital requirements become stiffer.  Foreclosure rates are reaching all time highs across the country and many homeowners are seeking refinancing or loan modifications in attempts to save the one thing they have worked their entire lives to acquire.  The only thing we have comfort in now is knowing that all of this is cyclical, and at some point, will start to turn around.  The question is how long before it does.

On another note, I would like to offer, on behalf of the Officers, Directors and all members of our organization, our deepest condolences to both Donna Smith and Mary Barzyk, both of whom have recently lost their husbands in the last month.  None of the aforementioned issues can compare to the loss of a spouse and loved one on which relationships and families are built.  Again, our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to Donna and Mary and their families

Nixle provides communities throughout the country with news and information that is both proximate and personally relevant. Our technology is critical in creating new communication paths that have never existed before. We've set out to enable highly granular, location-specific information to be immediately available to users, depending on their physical location at any given time. Nixle makes this information instantly available over web, mobile, and smart phone devices.

Every piece of information and news, including municipal government information is content. Content can be found in newspapers, magazines, television, radio, computers and a myriad of mobile devices. The relevancy of this information is dependent on the consumer and their exact location. As a result, the value of information constantly changes based on where a consumer is at any given time, and whether they are accessing information over their computer, mobile phone, or smartphone
device. As a result, the demand for instant access to up-to-date, personally relevant public safety and other truly local information is increasing exponentially everyday.

Nixle is a Community Information Service providing one source for access to credible real-time community information.

Nixle provides proprietary technology to local police departments, city and municipal governments, and their local agencies and community groups enabling the immediate delivery of geographically relevant information to residents and community visitors, through SMS, web, and email distribution.

Nixle's Community Information Service provides consumers with the most credible, reliable, and up-to-date personally relevant information. This highly granular, location-based information is pushed out directly to the persons it is most relevant to over the most high-speed, SMS distribution platform available.

Nixle's technology platform creates a database of community information that builds upon itself. As municipal and community-oriented groups push out their location-specific information directly to communities, the system also archives. This creates the foundation for databases of truly local news and information to virally develop for an infinite number of locales and communities, redefining the way news and information is disseminated and accessed.

Nixle's executive team has in-depth experience and a deep understanding of internal processes at local police departments, emergency service agencies, city and municipal governmental agencies and community outreach organizations. This allows Nixle's technology to be "best of breed" for these authorized users and ensures credibility of information delivered to residents and community visitors.
Registration to Nixle is now available to all consumers throughout the United States.
