The BPCIA held its quarterly meeting at the Holiday Inn Chicago/Midway on November 10. "Finding the Right Retirement For Your Business" was presented by Michael Bein. Mr. Bein is the AVP/Retirement Plan Consultant for Harris Investor Services, Inc. He presented a brief description of several business retirement plans with examples of how to filter which plan works best for various types of companies. He also discussed companies that already have a plan... identify to see if they're in the right plan and also a look at fiduciary responsibilities.

Acme Refining completes ISO upgrade from ISO 9001:2000 to ISO 9001:2008
Acme Refining Scrap Iron & Metal is pleased to announce their timely and successful upgrade from ISO 9001:2000 to ISO 9001:2008. All ISO 2001 certifications are required to complete the update by November 15, 2010 or their ISO certificate will become obsolete.
Acme's COO, Brett Baron stated, "The ISO upgrade shows Acme's commitment and focus on continuous improvement in our operations at the Acme yards, in partnering with our customers who require ISO standards and in our shipment of scrap to consumers."

Health Fair Offers Many Services for FREE... |
The BPCIA hosted its first Health Fair at the Bedford Park Community Center. Thanks to the help and support from Kathy Taloff, Anne Borsa and the whole park district crew, it turned out to be a very nice event. Many residents as well as industrial employees attended and were delighted by the exhibits, free health screenings, lectures and of course the delicious food. Georgis Catering, Costco and Gordons Food Service (GFS) supplied us with an unexpected array of food. Thanks you so much for your generosity to help make the fair a huge success.
Dr. William Rasmussen gave lectures every twenty minutes on subjects such as: arthritis, stress, strengthening your immune system, promoting safety in the workplace, eliminating headaches and the seriousness of falls. We can't thank him enough for his efforts and support of the Association. Thank you also to Dr. Kowalik who presented "Dentistry in the 21st Century".
Jamie Redwick (Concentra Medical Centers), Adrian Nicolson & Linda Berg (MacNeal Occupational Health), Mike Jacobson (Excel Occupational Health), Dan O'Connor (Sportho Physical Therapy), Dr. Dave Rompala (Sertoma Speech & Hearing) and Joe Machanis (Bedford Park Fire Department) were all instrumental in putting this event together. Thank you very much for your time and effort to support the association.

President's Message:
On October 27, 2009, the Bedford Park - Clearing Industrial Association hosted our first Health Fair at the Bedford Park Community Center. I would like to thank all the health care organizations who generously participated in our event to help make it successful, worthwhile and informative for those who attended.
Many, including myself, took advantage of the free screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, hearing, vision, spinal screening and the many other medical and health related exhibitors who offered their services. Access to flu shots was timely and provided the opportunity of getting the shot at our Health Fair without having to wait in long lines. Also, a big thanks to Georgis Catering, Costco and GFS for supplying food for the event. Finally a special thanks to Donna Smith and those board members who volunteered their time to assist Donna in setting up and helping to clean up after. I think the Fair was well attended for our first attempt and hopefully will be an ongoing event we can provide for our membership in the future. Please let us know your thoughts about this event if you feel there was anything missing or that could be changed.

The year is coming to an end sooner than we'd like to think. It's time to start thinking about 2010 BPCIA membership and helping us promote YOUR ASSOCIATION. Talk to your business aquaintances
and neighbors about us. Let them know about the opportunities of networking with local businesses. As a whole we can do much more! If we all work together the burden is lighter and the results are greater.
