Tiny Tunes Music Time Presents:
Parent/Child Keyboarding 1 Class

If your child can sing in tune, keep a steady beat, and is in between the ages of 5-7, he or she is most likely ready for some instrumental instruction. To help them make this wonderful first step, we will utilize the amazing curriculum of Rob Sayer, founder of "The Music Class".  Aural skills are taught along with technical skills, and students learn to play by ear before music notation is introduced.

Spaces are limited and NEW students are accepted in the fall session only!

Highlights of this program include:

  • Weekly group lessons that are taught in a fun and playful manner.
  • Tunes Music Time Class style songs and movement activities at a more sophisticated level.
  • learn to play many familiar songs on the keyboard.
  • Recitals featuring student solos, parent-child duets, and child-child duets and ensembles.
  • Beginning harmony, transposition and improvisation.
  • CD's that guides you through each home practice session. Students are expected to practice at home at least three times per week.
  • Promote self esteem and self discipline.
  • Develop many musical skills that are easily transferred to other instruments.
  • Each class is 45 minutes.
  • Keyboard 1 class follows a one year curriculum.  (Three sequential 10-week sessions Fall, Winter, and Spring Sessions ONLY!
  • Students are required to PURCHASE an electronic portable (61 key is a good size) keyboard (with batteries) to bring to EACH class and to have to practice on at home.
  • Chairs and stands for keyboards will be provided for families at each class.

What kind of Keyboard will I need to purchase?
(No need to get anything fancy)  We don't use any of the buttons or sound effects that come on larger keyboards.)  I suggest Casio and Yamaha as reliable brands.  On the web, you can usually find the best prices for these at www.musiciansfriend.com.  Go to "keyboards" and then "portable."  A 61 key instrument is a great size.  You can purchase one for as little as $54 dollars.

No need to bring a stand or chair to class, keyboard stands and chairs will be provided.

Why do you recommend a this type of Keyboard?
Having this instrument makes it very easy to bring anywhere for practice. It is also a very inexpensive way for children to get a feel if they really enjoy playing the piano.  Also, a keyboard is much easier for a child to master with their fine motor skills at these ages. At 6 years old, many children can handle a piano just fine.  However, some 5 year olds and even smaller 6 year olds have little hands, and for them I see no reason to stress their fingers.  (Piano keys require a fair amount of muscle.)

How do I know for sure my child is ready for this type of program?
