Issue: #20                       September 2009
Greetings!

Three day holiday weekend starts tomorrow and the weather forecast is perfect!  Yeah!
College football starts back up!  Yeah again!

Vacations wind down and kids are getting back to school, so routines will get a little more normal (if there is such a thing as normal).  And if you need any more motivation to get back into the routine, remember, Christmas is 16 weeks from tomorrow.

On to the newsletter...
Annual Open Enrollment - Life Insurance
We talked recently abut the fact that employer sponsored life insurance is not such a good deal as you get older.  We had a good response from that, and it looks like some readers are going to save some money!

So if you are looking at your voluntary life insurance rates going up (or you just want to get a quote on life insurance), contact us.  We work with all of the major carriers and you may be able to lock in a cheaper rate for a longer period of time - and have life insurance that you get to keep if you leave the company

Something to think about.
Annual Open Enrollment - Part II  FSA's
If you have the opportunity to enroll in a Flexible Spending Arrangement (FSA), take the time to look into it.  It is one of the best deals out there because it costs you nothing and saves you money.  Essentially it allows you to put aside money from your paycheck PRE-TAX to pay for things you would otherwise pay for with after-tax dollars.

You can only spend the money on items that are qualified eligible expenses, but the list is a long one.  Some of the more common items include;
     - Copayments
     - Over-the-counter medications
     - Eyeglasses, contact lenses, even LASIK surgery
     - Dental expenses

For more information, contact your HR department or send us a note and we can get you a more complete list.
COBRA Subsidy Reminder
This is just a quick reminder to all group administrators REGARDLESS OF THE SIZE OF YOUR COMPANY, you are subject to the COBRA subsidy laws passed by Congress recently.  Essentially, if you have someone that is terminated INVOLUNTARILY, they MAY be eligible for a 65% subsidy of their COBRA premiums for up to 9 months.  It is not black and white - Notice we used the words 'if', 'may', and 'up to'.

If you have any questions, contact us for more details.  If you are an individual in that situation (terminated involuntarily), you need to be aware of this as well.

Any questions, just give us a call.

How Long Does It Take You To Earn $100,000?
I am not trying to get personal here, I just want you to think about that question before you read further.  A recent article in the Wall Street Journal looked at some of the stars in various sports and calculated how long it would takes took them to earn $100,000 (excluding endorsement deals).  Here are a few of them:

         Alex Rodriguez, MLB        6 pitches
     Ben Roethlisberger, NFL       4 snaps
             Tiger Woods, golf       11 holes
           LeBron James, NBA       21 minutes
        Roger Federer, tennis       28 games
