Foundation Match for Donations to WHHS Radio Station
WHHS, the first high school
radio station in the country, is long overdue for an upgrade. A recent FCC review revealed the need
for some new equipment in order to maintain its broadcast license. Moreover, funds are needed to stream
its broadcasts online. To
encourage WHHS supporters to donate, the foundation has agreed to match
donations for the radio up to $5,000.
WHHS has touched many
lives. Just listen to what one
class of 1955 graduate wrote when she sent in a donation: "I read the news at noon on WHHS almost
55 years ago!" Please join her in
supporting a beloved institution.

What's Ahead for the Foundation?
What
is ahead for us? As we look to the
future, we plan to:
- Raise the final funds to
complete the TV studio
- Fund our commitment to
match donations up to $5,000 for WHHS, the high school's radio station
- Approve more and, hopefully,
larger grants for creative programs
- Begin the process of
selecting our next large project which will focus on the elementary or
middle schools

Foundation Grant Success Stories The programs and projects
funded by the foundation have impacted many students in the district. Here is what two of the principals have
to say:
Haverford High School TV
Studio
Haverford High School Principal Jeffrey Nesbitt
recently wrote:
"Haverford High School was the
recipient of substantial funding from the Haverford Township School District
Education Foundation to support the equipment necessary to implement a high
school television studio. The
grant donated for the new television station has had a tremendous impact on the
entire high school community. When
we first began to plan the creation of a new television studio I knew that this
would ultimately have an effect at Haverford High School, but I did not realize
how significant the impact would be and I had no idea that I would immediately
be seeing positive results.
The television studio is the
centerpiece of a cutting-edge curriculum in media and communications. Students have access to laptops and
other high end computers to create and edit their projects. They have the ability to produce live
shows through the use of television broadcasting equipment and they use various
cameras to record video for later use.
The station broadcasts outstanding
productions every Wednesday and Friday that are later shown on the local cable
channel. Students are learning to
create meaningful and engaging stories in their presentations. In addition, the cameras are visibly in
use in the halls, cafeteria and at after-school events. Students love to see themselves and
their projects broadcast throughout the building.
The entire television studio
project has been a tremendous success.
The students, staff, and members of the community appreciate everything
that the Haverford Township School District Education Foundation has done to
support the television studio and many other projects at Haverford High School."
Elemenatary School Mini TV
Stations
The excitement caused by
Haverford High School's new TV studio has trickled down to the elementary
schools. Both Manoa and
Chestnutwold have started their own mini TV studios thanks to grants from the
foundation. Manoa Principal,
Daniel Horan writes:
"Thank you for your generous support
of Good Morning Manoa. Good Morning Manoa is our daily television news program that is
completely produced and anchored by Manoa Elementary students. Your support has enabled our students
to gain real world technical and broadcasting skills and have a great time on a
daily basis!"
We, too, are thankful that the foundation's grants are
reaching so many children.
