Over the last 40 years, Rhea
has
captivated students and audiences worldwide with her magnetic
personality,
spellbinding stories, maverick spirit and dynamic dance technique,
which
blends principles of ancient Greek dance with modern Turkish
cabaret.
Unwaveringly dedicated to both this ancient dance form and to
living an
authentic life, Rhea leaves no adventure unturned. She has whirled
with
dervishes by the Blue Nile, climbed atop Mt. Sinai and broken
bread in
Bedouin tents, performed at prestigious venues all over the world
including the legendary Dora Stratou Theater, dipped her body in
waters
dedicated to Artemis, and spawned countless professional dancers
throughout the world, including her own daughters
Piper and Melina.
Rhea journey in belly dance began with her teacher and mentor,
Jamila Salimpour.Rhea became one of the first
sword dancers in Jamila's legendary troupe Bal Anat. Thanks to
Jamila, Rhea was the first dancer
in America to take the balancing of a sword into the context of a
cabaret
performance.
On Saturday September 11, Rhea will teach Ancient Greek Belly Dance to Modern Chiftetelli + Cymbals - all levels are welcome.
On Sunday September 13,
Rhea will teach Chakra Power + Graceful Hands and Arms, and How to Move your Hips a Million Ways.

Summer Greetings and Thanks:
Its been seven months since we first opened Moody Street Circus. The spacious yet homey studio in Waltham, MA has worked out wonderfully as the "two ring" home of Daughters of Rhea Belly Dance studio and Sacha and Melinda's School of Circus Arts. Since our opening we've had many a footprint leave its mark of joy on the belly dance floor. A multiplicity of hips have shimmied, a magnitude of hearts have thumped with joy, many challenging tricks have been learned on the silks, static trapeze, cloud swing and lyra, and a myriad of beautiful pyramids been formed by our young circus campers! We have hosted kids' circus birthday parties and adult belly dance bachelorette parties, music concerts, circus, belly dance and folk dance workshops, and more, and we are grateful to all who have crossed the threshold into our beautiful space to participate in our fun transformational happenings. We have various gigs in NY, the Berkshires and Baltimore this summer so Moody Street Circus is closed intermittently. Please note that yes we WILL be holding adult aerial classes (10 a.m.) and Belly Dance Drills n Skills Classes (12:30 a.m.) on Saturday August 7 and 14th. Classes will resume in full force in September, including upcoming workshops by Rhea of Greece on September 11 and 12th. Kids had a blast learning circus skills this summer at Moody Street Circus. This fall we are offering after-school circus classes to kids aged 7 - 12 on Tuesdays from 2:00 - 3:30 (ideal for the Newton school system early-release day), and on Thursdays from 3:30 - 5 p.m. Classes begin the week of September 14th, and run 11 weeks with the exception of Thanksgiving week. Melina's Kripalu Tribe of Belly Dancing Goddesses  | August 8 - 13, 2010. Wild Hips, Gypsy Heart: Belly Dance as Self-Empowerment. Absolute beginners welcome. Unleash your primal energies and learn to move your hips a million ways as Melina shares her ancient belly dancing secrets. Each day, Melina will introduce fun, easy-to-follow belly dance combinations in her signature Greco-Turkish style to help you connect with the proud, independent gypsy forces within you. No previous experience required, only bare feet, an open heart, and the readiness to celebrate your vibrant self. On Wednesday August 13th at 7:30 p.m., Melina and gifted percussionist John de Kadt will perform a belly dance, drum and poetry concert that is open to the public at Kripalu.

"Mend" - Aug. 14th Belly Dance Fusion Show at Green Street Studios in Cambridge, MA at 7:30. Bellybeat
Dance Company, a brand new belly dance company in Boston, will
be showcasing their first full length production. Directed by Christina
Ackley, aka "Odella," the show is comprised of many short bellydance works
as well as a re-staging of her MFA thesis piece, "Mechanical Goddesses" a
fusion of modern dance and bellydance. Highlights include two
performances by guests artists in the area, Melina and Najmat. This show has something for everyone: beautiful silk veils
floating and swirling through the space, sword balancing, folkloric cane
dancing, drum solos, and a fusion bellydance and hooping act. Please
note, 15% of our proceeds will go directly toward
Cancer Research at Massachusetts General Hospital in honor of
