| Lazy Days of Summer |
|
Not for the TI Chamber of Commerce!
The official start to our summer began over Memorial Day weekend with a great beach event - Sun, Sand & Swing... and even though we don't schedule many formal events during the summer, we had plenty to keep us occupied and in contact with each other.
The TI Chamber wrapped up its summer by creating a stir at the Multi-Chamber Expo and gaining more visibility for our members among the surrounding communities. But we're not stopping there!
Stay tuned for our next newsletter that will have details of upcoming fall events, other news and ways you, as members, can use these newsletters to make announcements and promote your businesses to the rest of the Chamber.

| Sun, Sand & Swing |
|
HELD SATURDAY, MAY 24th
Treasure Island - Year after
year, Sun, Sand and Symphony has brought thousands to Treasure Island Beach. This year the
Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce worked with the Treasure Island Recreation Department, vendors and volunteers for months to orchestrate this
year's Sun, Sand and Swing.

The Lost Pirate Skim Board Competition, which brought in hundreds alone, began the day at
8:00 a.m. followed kiting, children's activities and local bands playing on the beach. With events taking place throughout the day
and night, Chamber President Reiter's hope was that people would be drawn to Treasure
Island and be exposed to the area's hotels, restaurants and
business district.

Lawrence
Lunn, a volunteer who served most of the day at the event, believes
that these kinds of events allow the community to come together to accomplish
something extraordinary. "Togetherness
is the only way this community can survive," he said, and the city reaped the
benefits of the unified effort.

Although a
few hundred people were at the beach throughout the morning and afternoon, most
did not show up until after 3:30 when the first of the bands began to
play. By sunset, the beach was covered
with a blanket of attendees.

Even
without the Tampa Bay Symphony, approximately almost 4,000 people attended the
yearly event, and it appeared everyone
was having a good time. Some people may
have preferred the symphony, but Betty Huffman, a volunteer at the Treasure
Island Islettes booth, said "it is more upbeat, and it looks like everyone is
having more fun."

Some residents agreed
that the bands set a tone for the evening that was more enjoyable. Shelly Curtis of Sunset Beach
said, "I would have attended [for the symphony], but this is better."
Thank you to our over 100 Volunteers from the TI Chamber Businesses, Associate Members, community and the Treasure Island Recreation Department.
And to our Sponsors: Johnson Bros, LLC, Budweiser, Lost Energy Drink, Beach Beacon, Bilmar Beach Resort, Dollar Zone, Gators Cafe & Saloon, Lamont Management, Paradigm Learning, Residence Inn by Marriott and Sloppy Joe's
TI's next beach event will be held on Saturday October 11th

HELD WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13th
The 2008 Multi-Chamber Business Showcase was a success for the Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce. According to Kristen Brown at the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce there were 124 vendors, including the Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce, and 581 attendees.
Most of the attendees visited the Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce table for a chance to play the Sunshine Dude Race with Chairman of the Board, Harry Black, calling out numbers and winners in true Vegas style. Twenty six door prizes, donated by our members, were awarded to the winners as well as an additional grab bag of Treasure Island goodies to all participants.
The Business Showcase was a wonderful opportunity to network with other business owners throughout the Tampa Bay Area, and we want to send a special thank you to our event and door prize sponsors.
