News From Jim
Hi everyone, I'm back from the Pan American Endurance Championships in Chile where the US team won a silver medal and individual riders won silver and bronze. We just missed a gold medal by 1 minute and 47 seconds. It was an exciting race where our riders went to the front early on and kept pace with the eventual winner from Uruguay. Our leading horse, Heraldic, with John Crandall on top, stumbled during the last few miles, losing the lead to the first place finisher. Bummer! The Hunter/Jumper indoor finals are winding up. The Washington International Horse Show in Washington, D.C. is always fun as the horses are stabled on streets blocked off around the Verizon center in downtown DC. Riders and grooms walk their horses up and down the sidewalks on the way to the ring, mingling with local commuters walking to and from work. The warm-up ring is downstairs in the parking garage with underground garage pillars to ride around. I am always amazed at the commitment of these riders. I also got to visit my old buddy, Logan. Logan and rider Brianne Goutal won all three major equitation finals in 2005 and were chronicled in the Animal Planet TV show, "Road to the Maclay". Logan is 18 yrs. old now, is a veteran of ten (count 'em, ten) Washington Int'l Horse Shows, and competes again with a new junior rider this year. Brianne also continues her illustrious career as an adult show jumper rider. The last indoor show is the Alltech National Horse Show and Maclay Finals this week at the Kentucky Horsepark in Lexington. Coincidentally, we'll be doing a Masterson Method™ Weekend Seminar at the Maker's Mark Secretariat Center at the Kentucky Horse Park this weekend also. And finally, November and December will be a time of R & R for all of us! We have quite a few new Certified Practitioners in the US and the UK now, three having just finished their Phase III Course in Devon, UK last month. We are highlighting them in this and upcoming newsletters. First up is Nora Garafalo from Wellington, Florida. I met Nora when she was a client of mine showing at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida quite a few years ago. She became inspired to learn this work and is now working on client's horses at that same show. Read about her below. Also below is Monica Goold. Monica recently moved to France from Spain, and rode her two horses, well, one horse and one mule - from her old home to her new home in France - in two weeks, dos semanas, quinze jours - just for grins. She's amazing. Lastly, check out a video clip from the new DVD, "Beyond Horse Massage" below. We are offering a 15% discount for those that pre-purchase the DVD by November 14th. New Certified Practitioner
Nora Garafalo, Wellington, FL
In 2006 Jim Masterson met Nora Garofalo at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida where she was competing with seven horses. During twenty years of competition in the Jumpers, having ridden under the tutelage of Olympians and after managing show farms for Grand Prix Riders, Nora had employed various forms of Bodywork and Mechanical Relief Devises but had never experienced a horse receive such a visible and palpable benefit as she witnessed after Jim applied the Masterson Method of Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork™ to her horses. After that day in 2006 Nora was hooked and began to educate herself in the healing of horses through touch. Nora had the opportunity to develop her Bodywork through time spent with Jim Masterson himself and Tamara Yates both whom Nora holds in the highest regard as experts in the diverse field of Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork™.
Nora holds several certifications in the Healing Arts. Thirty years with horses has taught her that there is always more to learn, she is currently studying to be an Equine Osteopath under the tutelage of Janek Vluggen DO, MRO, EDO recognized internationally as the leading expert in the field of Equine Osteopathy. Nora's Bodywork is considered "Gentle Structural Reintegration" combining the Masterson Method and Energy Healing (thanks to her mother Neli, who introduced Nora to various forms of holistic healing including Reiki over twenty years ago).
Nora believes the rigors of competition in all Equine Sports are demanding of the Horse physically, mentally and emotionally. Her results driven work has shown to improve behavior and performance in all disciplines. Her compassionate form of Bodywork increases the horse's range of motion, fluidity of stride, stamina and encourages the horse to believe in himself and to know that their owners, riders and caregivers don't only care about how the horses are moving but also how they are feeling. After Nora's Bodywork sessions riders, trainers, veterinarians and grooms have expressed that the horses seem to experience an overall renewed willingness to work and play! You can contact Nora via her email: thebodyworker@att.net

Monica Goold, New Certified Practitioner, France.
Listing Ray Hunt, the Dorrance Brothers, Mark Rashid, Brent Graef and, of course, now Jim Masterson amongst her mentors, Monica brings a wealth of international experience to her bodywork with horses. Having travelled the world in her pursuit of enhancing horses performance and the missing connection between horse and human, Monica admits that 'there is nothing more beautiful than the freedom of movement which comes from a healthy horse'. This fully aligns with Monica's experience with horses and underlies her passion to help horses maintain health and improve performance where appropriate Coming from a nursing background, Monica understands how important it is to create trust and win a horses cooperation in order for the healing process to take place. Combining these skills with her unique and natural instinctive feel for what is 'right', Monica is the practitioner your horse would choose. Testimonial Email to Jim:
Jim,
I have only the DVD you put out and have never attended a clinic but even with only this much experience, your technique/massage plan for us to follow is so good that I can get my horse to feel so good in his body that he will decide to lay down. I wanted to tell you after reading your last article in your newsletter.
Thank you for such a great massage/muscle release technique.
Stephani Cessario
Thanks Stephani for your kind words! Jim

Testimonial for Coralie Hughes, Certified Masterson Method™ Practitioner:
Coralie,
I wish I could just build an apartment in the barn (for you) as I want my horse to feel like this all the time. She was soooooo relaxed at times I had to remind her not to plummet to the ground in front :) She felt like a beautiful rubber band in her neck and I could see all of her muscles gently flexing/contracting and stretching out.
We just rode forward and long and low letting her stretch and she just felt super, super super. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for working on her. It was so amazing tonight when I was hosing her off as I was running my hands along her body that it all felt so soft, even the little bumps along her back did not seem so prominent. Her skin felt loose and pliable verses tought. Just a wonderful feeling to see the difference it can make for her. Thank you, Ann

Another Testimonial to Jim from one of our UK Masterson Method™ Certified Practitioners
Dear Jim, I worked with 3 horses today and they all had great 'bliss' times - two of the owners were watching their horses during their first time sessions and both broke down in tears to see the horses benefit so much and release and give themselves into my safekeeping for the duration of the sessions - what a privilege to work with them .....
Once again I have to express my heartfelt thanks to you for the gift of this technique - it has enabled me to co-ordinate and tie in the modalities which I have been studying to give back something to the equines I meet. All best wishes,
Listy Montgomery-Davis
