It looks as if Jim will be a presenter at Asia Pacific, Equitana, www.Equitana.com.au in Melbourne, Australia, November 20-23rd
Equitana is the most comprehensive equine event in the Southern hemisphere with 150 educational programs, 10 horse competitions and is attended by over 50,000 people.    Jim plans to include a weekend Seminar-Workshop in Sydney, Australia on the 16th - 17th.   He will also be doing demonstrations to the Jockey Club and various organizations while in Australia. See our Calendar Page for dates of events.
Tip of the Month:

When moving around your horse as you do massage work, shift your weight first, then move your leg.  In a pasture, when the horses are relaxed you will see them shift their weight and then move a leg.  When they don't do that and suddenly move their legs it is often a call for alarm and will bring your horse out of the "zone." into survival gear.

Jim Masterson
Just wanted you all to check out our reorganized Masterson Method Website   We've added more pages of in depth information about our Weekend Seminar-Workshops, and Level I Certification Courses.
Check out both pages as they give extensive explanations of the Courses offered, prerequisites and how you can sponsor a Masterson Method Seminar-Workshop in your area.

This month we will hold our first The Level I Certification Course.  This course is a result of requests for more Integrated Equine Perfomance Bodywork techniques and knowledge.  Take a look at the website for more information and the prerequisites for the Level I Course at the Level I Courses webpage  and see if this is something you might be interested in joining us.  I am looking forward to teaching Level II and III Courses in the near future!

All horse people, including those that practice equine therapies, are on a constant mission to learn more and do more for their equine partners.  Each year, I research new techniques and levels of feel that help the horse to release tension.  I am offered input from other therapists, veterinarians, and from observant, intuitive horse owners (like you.) With the opportunity to work on 500-600 horses a year, I have the ultimate laboratory to research new points that release tension in key areas that affect performance.  But, all this has to pass the final test of approval from the horse, through visible responses, releases and in the way the horse moves or behaves.  That is why learning to the "read" the horse is such an invaluable tool for any modality of bodywork and for handling the horse in general.

I am hoping to pass this information not only to those that sign up for a Seminar-Workshop, but we now have hours of tapes of me working on horses, which are currently in the process of being edited for broadcast on the NickerNetwork.  For those who are not familiar with the Nicker Network, it is an on-line, on-demand, internet based broadcast source dedicated to the horse world.  This is an exciting new avenue of horse related information.  Many channels are there for you to choose from including; Hunter/Jumper TV; Piaffe TV; VetBarn TV all with just a click of your mouse!  We hope to have a dedicated channel, the Masterson Method channel where you can go to watch me give a full treatment to a horse, or watch the latest seminars.  We will let you know when it's ready to launch.

Until then, like me, enjoy your horses.

Italian Seminars

Group Shot Italy A big thank you to Dr. Michael Faughnan, DVM,  and Giovanni Alberini for sponsoring Masterson Method seminars in Padova and Brescia Italy.  This picture was a group shot of the participants at the Centro Medico Equino, S.L.R. in Padova, Italy.   Dr. Faughnan, DVM (far left) has a thriving equine dental practice in Padova, Italy and environs and kindly did all the translation at this seminar.  Thanks also goes out to Giovanni Alberini for sponsoring a Masterson Method seminar at his state of the art facility www.thefoolonthehill.it near Milan, Italy.  He was a huge help in translation and videotaping of the Brescia, Italy seminar.  We are looking forward to going back this year for more.

Ask Jim:

Jim and RaindropI get a lot of questions and requests for information via the website and from horse people who have watched the DVD or taken a seminar.  The questions are either about doing the bodywork in general or on specific issues with their horses.  I (hopefully) get back to all of you sooner or later depending on what's going on around me when I receive them.  Whether it's sooner, or later, please keep the questions coming because I love to see everybody get this new level of connection with their horses, while at the same time, improve the way their horse feels and moves.  Most of these questions we post on our Blog are issues that come up while working on horses that many of you may encounter at one time or another.
Jim and HorseLevel I Certification in the Masterson Method of Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork

I want to take this opportunity to explain briefly what the Level I Certification entails.  It is set up as a course of advanced techniques to accommodate two different levels students:

  1. It is for people who are already certified from a school in human or equine therapy and want to become "Certified" in the Masterson Method.
  2. It is for people who may have sufficient knowledge of anatomy but are not certified from a school in any human or equine therapy, and will not receive certification, but a "Certificate of Completion" for each of the three Phases of the Level I Course.
Both categories have to have sufficient knowledge of equine anatomy to be able to apply the techniques you will learn, and both must have the ability and experience in handling a variety of horses.

The only difference between Category #1 and Category #2 is that Category #1 participants have already been certified in some type of thereapy, be it human massage therapy or equine massage thereapy, and upon completion of all the three phases of the Level I Course will receive Certification in the Masterson Method.

If on the other hand, you fall into Category #2 and have not been previously certified in some type of therapy that requires a knowledge of anatomy, then you will receive a Certificate of Completion for each of the Phases.

Chestnut legIn any case, you will receive the same training and benefit of my experience.  I hate to get caught up in certificates and credentials, when I started with none of them myself, but since I am now offering one, I guess I have to take it more seriously.  With this method of bodywork your true certification is ultimately issued by the horse!

I wanted to be very clear to those that take the Level I Course that this is an Advanced course (kind of like an MA verses a BA) and if you have NOT been certified by another massage school, than you will NOT receive Certification in the Masterson Method until you have acquired that beginning certification.  We have a list of schools that you can attend, or an on-line course that will fill that prerequisite.  Email the office Masterson@lisco.com for that information.  And visit the Level I Certificate Courses page on our website for a complete list of prerequisites.
