Greetings!

2011 marks a year of anniversaries. Anniversaries that changed America - the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl harbor, and the 10th anniversary of 9/11...all events that forced America to rebuild, refocus and redirect its efforts to build morale and certainty in the American people.

Of the aforementioned events, the anniversary of 9/11 is the most difficult for me to commemorate. It's hard to believe that a decade has passed since the horrific and life-changing events that occurred on that Tuesday morning in 2001. I can still vividly picture the planes colliding into the world trade towers and the bellows of freight and hysteria that followed -images and sounds that will forever be burned into my mind and that of every American who witnessed such tragedy.

Leading up the anniversary, I intently watched the Discovery Channel series "Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero" and stared in amazement, watching beam after beam build Tower One. It now stands close to 1,000 feet tall and will, upon completion, comprise 2.6 million square feet on 105 office floors at a height of 1,776 feet - the tallest building in New York and the United States.

The construction yards in New York are vibrant once again; over 750 workers are on site daily at Ground Zero; and there is something so bittersweet about seeing this building emerge in lower Manhattan.

The implication of Tower One trumps the financial turmoil and deplorable economy we've faced in the last five years. It is more than just a replacement building - it's a tangible display of our attitude, our heart and the spirit of America. It represents perseverance and it sends a strong message both domestically and internationally...America's back on track!

Sincerely,

Saint Agnes to Get New ED Observation Room

Seals/Biehle recently began construction on the Emergency Department Observation Room at Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno.

Work on this 857 square-foot project consists of demolishing the existing ED offices to make room for the new ED Observation Unit.  New walls, finish, electrical, mechanical and plumbing work will be carried out to support the Unit.  The Unit's rooms are outfitted with abuse resistant drywall and wall protection, and each room is constructed with a storefront system to support continuous observation.  The mechanical system will include upgrades, with the installation of a new exhaust fan to service the space and the areas HVAC needs. The project, which commenced on August 15, will be completed in December of this year.

The ED Observation Room joins an extensive list of projects for which Seals/Biehle has provided services for at SAMC, which has includes the Sixth Floor Build-Out, North Wing major expansion, PET/CT expansion, Cath Lab expansion, remodel of the Cyber Café and remodel of the Sterile Processing Department.

Saint Peter's Catholic Church Set to Open in Lemoore this Fall

What began as a dirt lot in March 2010 is now in the final days of completion, and standing tall is the 22,000 square foot Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Lemoore. The stunningly beautiful arched stained glass windows give this newly built church an old-world style and beauty, reminiscent of a Catholic Church out of Europe. Seals/Biehle provided the construction services for the 1,497-seat church and 152-seat day chapel. Construction consisted of braced-frame structural steel, exposed steel trusses, metal stud framing, underground duct work and sloped concrete floor. The architectural details are intricate and include plaster- covered EPS foam trims, as well as Limestone coated foam trims, a 26' diameter copper dome roof over the altar with clerestory aluminum windows, and a wood tongue and groove ceiling.
