Greetings!

On the heels of a six-month transition with a new Presidential Administration, we are reminded that the failing economy is ever-present and continuing a dismal downward spiral. Vacant retail space, alarming unemployment rates and rising taxes all paint a bleak picture of tight margins and prudent budgets. But with these trying times come opportunities and potential for growth. Some of the best opportunities present themselves when competitors are weak - opportunities to innovate, diversify and capitalize on growing industries.

A down economy is a perfect time to reorganize, become more efficient at process and evaluate new market potentials. Organizations that invest in streamlining processes and maximizing efficiency will be best positioned to ride the current economic wave until inevitably, the pendulum swings and recovery and profit are at the helm of the global economy.

Sincerely,

Matt Seals

Visalia Chamber Honors Matt Seals with 2009 Chairman's Award

Each year the Visalia Chamber of Commerce honors those businesses and individuals who consistently go above and beyond to support our community.  This year is no exception - dozens of businesses were nominated for these prestigious awards which date back to 1952 when C.T. Buckman gleaned the first Man of the Year award.

This year's esteemed winners include:

Chairman's Award: Matt Seals -  Longtime Chamber member and construction manager of Seals/Biehle General Contractors, a Visalia-based firm.

Winners were chosen by a committee and judged on a point system and were announced at the 56th Annual Awards Celebration held on June 18, 2009 at the Visalia Holiday Inn Hotel & Conference Center.

About once a year, I stop in Visalia, CA to check out Recreation Park. There's nothing else like it in pro-baseball, because I don't think it's possible for a fan to sit any closer to the field of play. Anyway, there had been a flurry of activity in recent years regarding significant improvements to the aging facility, and I like to keep track of the progress being made there.
But when I drove up North Giddings Street in June of 2009 to see what was new at the old ballpark, a huge brick structure sprung from the horizon in front of me, immediately causing me to think I'd turned down the wrong street.
Nope, it was the right place.

But, boy, it was not the same ol' ballyard!

Following $11.6 million in extreme makeovers, the place has been transformed. Keep reading to see exactly what has changed, and what impact those changes have on attending a game at Recreation Ballpark.

*Seals/Biehle would like to extend a special thank you to Sean Poynter, Raina McNamara and Steve Biehle for a job well done on the Recreation Park project.
Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.
