2011-2012 World Affairs Lecture Series

But you'd better understand this: the best route to rebuilding our economy, our cities, and our job markets, as well as assuring national security, is doing precisely what you would do if you were scared to death about climate change. In Climate Capitalism, L. Hunter Lovins, with sustainability expert Dr. Boyd Cohen, tells the stories of inventors, major corporations, communities, and main street businesses who are cutting their costs, driving innovation, inspiring their employees, and building prosperity by investing in energy efficiency and renewable resources. This lecture is presented as part of the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy's Ambassador John Price and Marcia Price World Affairs Lecture Series, in partnership with Westminster College's Weldon J. Taylor Executive Lecture Series, American Express, and Wells Fargo. All lectures are free and open to the public, and held in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall at Westminster College.

UCCD Strengthens Ties to France

In September, 2011, UCCD Executive Director, Laura Dupuy, traveled to France as part of a delegation to help celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Cercle Jefferson, an association founded by French alumni of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), to show their support of the American people following September 11, 2001.
Pascal Dupeyrat, Cercle Jefferson Founder and General Secretary, in partnership with the Public Affairs Office, U.S. Embassy, Paris, organized a five-day professional and cultural program for members of the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV). The visit was arranged by the association in order to "promote mutual understanding and the continuing exchange of ideas that began with participation in the IVLP."
The self-funded delegation included representatives from nine Councils for International Visitors (including UCCD), NCIV Board members, as well as representatives from the Office of International Visitors, U.S. Department of State. Alma Candelaria, Director of the Office of International Visitors and keynote speaker at UCCD's 2011 Tribute to Utah's Citizen Diplomats, was joined by Stephen Taylor, Program Officer, Office of International Visitors.  Are you a longtime, new or prospective member of the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy (UCCD)? Are you a first-time Home Host? (Orientation is required for new Home Hosts.)

Registration is now open for the 2011 National Conference, US National Security: Six Top Issues for the 2012 Elections! The Conference will take place November 2-4, 2011 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. Also happening at that time will be our Fall Leadership Meeting for Council CEOs and Staff and our WACA Annual Membership Meeting. This year's conference will launch the year long discussion on the Six Top National Security Issues facing the United States in the run-up to the 2012 presidential election, which were selected by our council network leadership; US Education: Competing Globally, US Energy Policy, Afghanistan/Pakistan, US Economic Competitiveness, the Middle East, and China.

2011 Korean Cultural Day

The Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles, and Gyeonggi Arts Center, Korea Foundation, and The Korean American Federation of Utah are presenting a grand event - 2011, Korean Cultural Day, in the Salt Lake City. This event will be a great opportunity for cultural exchanges between Koreans and Americans that will further enhance a better understanding and appreciation of our respective cultures.
This event will present a fantastic crossover performance of traditional Korean Dance combined with world renowned Taekwondo martial arts with a modern dance twist by Heung Dong Cho who is Director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Dance Company of the Gyeonggi Arts Center. They will also present the quintessence of Korean traditional dance: the Fan Dance, Hourglass-shaped drum dance, and etc.

Governor-Led Trade Mission to Canada
