The Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy (UCCD), in partnership with the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth (WACDFW), invites you to join a monthly online audiocast that connects you with journalists of The Economist magazine and allows you to learn and ask questions about pressing global issues. Internships in Citizen Diplomacy

The Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy is now accepting applications for the Fall 2011 Internship program. The available internship positions are Program Associate Intern, Communications/Public Relations Intern, and Administrative Associate Intern. UCCD is seeking enthusiastic, outgoing individuals with excellent communication skills in English, the ability to work independently, and a passion for contributing to global understanding. Application deadline is Friday, August 5, 2011. Interviews with successful first-round candidates will be conducted the week of August 8-12, 2011. Citizen Diplomacy Strengthens Transparency in Government

James Madison once said, "Nothing could be more irrational than to give the people power, and to withhold from them informatio­n without which power is abused." He, like our other Founding Fathers, understood that in order for democracy to work, transparency in government was essential.

 

Through the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program, administered locally by the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy, government officials and NGO officers from Latin America spent two days in Salt Lake City learning about "Transparency and Accountability in U.S. Government." From Argentina, Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela, these individuals were selected by American Foreign Service Officers for their outstanding efforts to promote transparency and accountability in their own countries. Amaryah Cannon is a Communications & Public Relations Intern with the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy. She is currently a junior at the University of Utah, pursuing a degree in International Studies with an emphasis in European Studies, and a minor in Business.
UCCD Congratulates UOT for "Achievement in Trade" Award

Certificate

Patricia Denny, Manager, Travel Trade Program, and her Utah Office of Tourism team, were recently presented with a certificate of appreciation for "Achievement in Trade" for promoting Utah as an international tourism destination by the U.S. Department of Commerce. The U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service's Export Achievement Certificate was created to recognize organizations that have realized success and who embody a strong dedication to American ingenuity and export in the international marketplace. The Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy wishes to congratulate Ms. Denny and the Utah Office of Tourism for their efforts promoting the "Greatest Snow on Earth" and Utah's national parks throughout the world.

2011 Native American Celebration in the Park  

Mon, July 25, 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., Liberty Park 

 

The 2011 Native American Celebration in the Park will begin immediately after the Days of 47 Parade and include children's activities, food booths, arts and crafts booths, Native American Powwow, and fireworks. Bring the whole family, plan to eat lunch and dinner, purchase Native American jewelry and watch the fireworks. There will also be an exciting Native American dance competition!

U.S.-Korea Summit on Science and Engineering 2011

August 10-14, 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Canyons Resort, Park City

 

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA), together with the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) and the Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation Center (KUSCO), you are invited to participate in the U.S.-Korea Summit on Science and Engineering at the Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah. 1,000 scientists and engineers from academia, government, and industry will attend the Summit from the U.S. and Korea. Given the rapidly increasing level of cooperation between the two countries, and with the upcoming FTA agreement, the Summit will be a great platform to openly exchange ideas for new synergistic discoveries. 

 

Cost: Regular Registration Fee $500/Student Fee $300

The 2011 Fiesta De Pueblo will feature informative cultural, health and educational workshops, sumptuous Latin cuisine, Carnival Rides, Art and Craft exhibits, and a wide array of vendors representing Utah's diverse Hispanic business community.

November 1-3, 2011
