Utah Group Helps Shape US Foreign Policy

By Alison Peek, Examiner.com

Alison Peek"The Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy, located at Westminster College in Salt Lake City believes individuals have the right and the responsibility to help the United States shape its foreign policy and wants to do it "one handshake at a time."

Founded in 1965, UCCD partners with the US Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program, a program designed to provide opportunities for short-term visits between emerging international professionals and leaders and people living in Utah. Participants are invited to spend the evening and dine in the home of a UCCD member. Nationally, more than 4,000 visitors participate each year in the program." Continue reading.

Peace Corps Celebrates 50 Years of World Peace and Friendship

Peace CorpsThe Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy wishes to congratulate the Peace Corps on its 50th Anniversary of promoting peace and friendship around the world. The Peace Corps was officially established by President John F. Kennedy's executive order on March 1, 1961. Just five months later, a group of Americans stepped off a plane in Accra singing Ghana's national anthem in Twi. The pioneering spirit of that first group of Volunteers endures today.

This historic milestone is an opportunity to honor the 1,012 Utah Peace Corps Volunteers who have served since 1961, including 56 currently working in emerging and essential areas throughout the world, as well as inspire the next generation of Volunteers.

Check out the official 50th Anniversary Calendar and the National Peace Corps Association website for links to all of the commemorative events.
