UCCD Releases Its 2010 Annual Report

 Utah Council for Citizen DiplomacyThe Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy is pleased to announce the release of its 2010 Annual Report. The Annual Report is available on our website, www.utahdiplomacy.org, under Newsroom. Among other 2010 highlights, UCCD: 

  • Welcomed 457 International Visitors from 126 different countries;
  • Designed and implemented 79 professional and cultural programs;
  • And, engaged more than 550 volunteers.
In the year ahead, UCCD will continue our forty-four year legacy of building friendships around the world. We hope you will renew your support of Citizen Diplomacy, as we work together to create a more peaceful world.

U.S. Department of State Student Internship Programs  

 U.S. Department of State 

How far could a student internship at the U.S. Department of State take you? Just for starters, it would give you a greatly coveted inside look into Foreign Service, and its related positions and responsibilities.  

 

The U.S. Department of State is now accepting applications for the 2012 Spring Student Internship Program. You must be a U.S. Citizen and a student (a full- or part-time continuing college or university junior, or graduate student - including graduating seniors intending to go on to graduate school) to be eligible.

Teacher Ambassador Program in China 

 UWC-USA 

United World College-USA (UWC-USA) has an exciting opportunity for citizen diplomats interested in teaching in China. The Teacher Ambassador Program (TAP) trains Americans as high schol instructors and ambassadors to teach, in English, subjects like Math, Science and English (language and literature), as well as prepares them for a range of opportunities to engage their classroom in community service activities that are meaningful, realistic and culturally appropriate. Selected teachers will be provided free, modern lodging and a high salary.

U.S. Department of State, Office of International Visitors Staff Changes

New Voluntary Visitors Division Chief

TheIVLP Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy welcomes Ms. Alison Moylan as Chief of the Voluntary Visitors Division, Office of International Visitors. Ms. Moylan was previously Chief in the Multi-Regional Programs (MRP) Division. In this role, she led four program officers and two program coordinators in developing and managing approximately 50 multi-regional group projects annually. Ms. Moylan led the MRP team through several special initiatives including "I-VOTE 2008" - UCCD hosted two I-VOTE participants - and "Volunteerism: United We Serve" in 2010 - UCCD hosted 25 International Visitors as part of the "United We Serve" project. Ms. Moylan was also involved in the conceptualization of the "Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists" in 2006. She is a graduate of St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY, with a degree in sociology concentrating on Latin American studies.

New Chief of the Community Relations Branch 

Diane CrowUCCD would also like to welcome back Ms. Diane Crow as Chief of the Community Relations Branch in the Office of International Visitors at the U.S. Department of State. Ms. Crow returned to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs after serving 30 months in Iraq. During the first 18 months, she was one of the civilians working with the U.S. military at the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. In Mosul, she spent 3-5 days per week going 'outside the wire' to connect with average Iraqi citizens as the Public Diplomacy Officer for the PRT. The last 10 months were spent in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, working on human rights issues and working to build capacity of civil society organizations.  

 

Prior to joining the Department of State, Ms. Crow was co-founder and Executive Director of Global Outreach, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provided individuals interested in agriculture and rural life with international exchange programs. She has a B.Sc. in agricultural economics and a B.Sc. in animal science from Michigan State University.

Under Secretary McHale to Leave Post


Judith McHaleAs reported in the Washington Post last week and subsequently by the Alliance for International Educational and Cultural Exchange, Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Judith McHale, announced her plans to leave her post in June to return to the private sector in New York. In a departure message to the Public Diplomacy (PD) community, Ms. McHale outlined the collective work undertaken over the past two years to "implement Secretary Clinton's vision for diplomacy in the 21st century" and thanked her PD colleagues for "your service, your counsel, and your support." Utah Asian Festival

The Asian Festival began in 1977 when an influx of Southeast Asian refugees began settling in Utah. The festival offered the majority population an opportunity to come to know new minority groups. Today, the festival is still dedicated to the Asian communities in Utah and is intended to provide a means of expressing, promoting and preserving unique and valuable customs, traditions and heritage.

Exporting Workshop: Financial, Legal and Logsitics

The slow recovery of the worldwide recession, changes in exchange rates and the threat of worldwide inflation requires that Utah exporters be better informed and flexible in negotiating sales and credit terms with foreign buyers.
