"Volunteerism: United We Serve"

Meridian International CenterMarch 19, 2010. Salt Lake City, Utah. The Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy (UCCD) was selected among 93 other Councils for International Visitors (CIVs), to welcome a large international delegation from around the world to Utah to examine volunteerism and community service. According to a new report released by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Utah ranks as the #1 volunteer state in the United States for the 4th year in a row. As Utah Senator Orin Hatch confirms: "As I've said before, volunteerism is encoded into America's cultural DNA, and nowhere is that more true than in the great state of Utah. People from our state have, time and again, demonstrated their willingness to put their skills and experience to good use in improving our neighborhoods and communities."

A Department of State initiative, the project titled, "Volunteerism: United We Serve," was inspired by the renewed commitment to public service encouraged by President Obama. The program will bring up to 100 world leaders in government, non-governmental organizations, civic and community activism, education, and journalism to the United States. UCCD will host 26 participants from April 17-21, 2010.

The itinerary will include one week in Washington, a four-way split in Indianapolis, Houston, Kansas City and Salt Lake City, 50 two-person splits throughout the country, and a final segment in San Francisco for the entire group.

UCCD is honored to welcome the distinguished guests to Utah, and encourages you, our Citizen Diplomats, to invite them to your home for dinner and conversation. For more information, or to volunteer, please contact Audrey Anderson, Program Director, at aanderson@utahdiplomacy.org or (801) 832-3273.
