Taiwan Teacher Exchange Opportunity
Washington, DC - The Graduate School, USDA invites applications from educators to participate in a new program that allows certified U.S. teachers to instruct primary and middle school students in Taiwan for one academic year. The program is organized in Taiwan by the Ministry of Education and in the United States by the Graduate School, USDA. Pending final program approval by authorities both here and abroad, accepted teachers would travel to Taiwan in August 2009 and teach in a school there until the following year. Selected applicants will serve as visiting teachers in their schools in Taiwan and receive a salary from the program based on educational level and experience. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about another culture by working directly with colleagues and students in schools. The deadline for application is March 30, 2009, but because this is a new program, the deadline is more flexible than it might be in future years. For more information, interested candidates may click here. |

American Drug War: The Last White Hope
Mon, April 20, 7pm, City Library
Directed by KEVIN BOOTH Runtime 122 minutes
35 years after Nixon started the war on drugs, we have over one million non-violent drug offenders living behind bars. The War on Drugs has become the longest and most costly war in American history, the question has become, how much more can the country endure? Inspired by the death of four family members from "legal drugs" Texas filmmaker Kevin Booth sets out to discover why the Drug War has become such a big failure. Three and a half years in the making, the film follows gang members, former DEA agents, CIA officers, narcotics officers, judges, politicians, prisoners and celebrities. Most notably the film befriends Freeway Ricky Ross; the man many accuse for starting the Crack epidemic, who after being arrested discovered that his cocaine source had been working for the CIA.
