Women on the HIV/AIDS prevention & awareness campaign
Salt Lake City - In May, UCCD welcomed 9 African Delegates from various religious backgrounds (Catholic, Muslim, Presbyterian, and Protestant) to Salt Lake City for an examination of religious and interfaith activity in a region whose spiritual identity was formed by a quest for freedom of religion. These Delegates were participants in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) administered by the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Among these 9 Visitors, Reverend Mozart MULAMA is a pastor from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In Salt Lake, he learned about individual freedom of conviction, expression, and worship by visiting the LDS Museum of Church History and Art, BYU's College of Religious Education, the Utah Division of Indian Affairs, the Kol Ami Congregation, and participated in an Interfaith Roundtable Discussion moderated by Westminster College's Director of Spiritual life, Jan Saeed.

After his visit to the U.S., Rev. MULAMA pursued his role as a religious leader, but also launched an HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness campaign. Continue reading...

Help International Visitors Navigate Salt Lake City

NavigationIn October, UCCD welcomes three individual International Visitors. These emerging leaders from Mongolia, Czech Republic, and Egypt need your help getting to their professional appointments and meeting with their professional counterparts.

UCCD is now seeking volunteers who can contribute a day of their time serving as a volunteer driver and escort these International Visitors and their interpreter.

How it works
You will pick the Visitors up at Little America Hotel at 8:30 am and accompany them to their professional appointments throughout the day; take them to lunch (they will pay for their own meal); and return them to the hotel by 5:00 pm at the latest. UCCD will provide you with their itinerary and maps to each appointment. Volunteers will be asked to supply identification and proof of insurance.

As a Volunteer Driver You Will
  • Meet and engage with international visitors from around the world
  • Accompany international visitors to their professional meetings and meet with key community leaders
  • Exchange customs and cultures over lunch
  • Help shape a positive image of the United States
  • Make a friend
  • Invest in the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy in an important and meaningful way
  • And yes... mileage reimbursement at the Government rate of $.585 per mile (record of mileage required)

  • Mongolia is called the Land of the Blue Sky because it averages 257 cloudless days a year.
  • Mongol ruler Genghis Khan and his descendants created the largest continuous land empire in history.
  • In Mongolia, a fast-running horse is an especially prized possession.
